You are probably fine. Overcharged just means the N2 pressure in the unit is above the normal operating range. The agent is just going to come out a little faster than normal. You should have the unit checked by a qualified professional as soon as convenient, however.
Look in your yellow pages under fire extinguishers and call to find out if "walk-in" service is available in your area.
Good luck.

Um. If you're needing to use a fire extinguisher, I hope you're not waiting for answers. Reminds me of my friend in Kansas (I live in Minnesota) who was telling me on the phone one night that he thought his building might be on fire. Um, Dude. I'm three states away. What do you think I can do for you at this point? Get off the phone and get out of the frickin' building!

Depends on the type of the fire extinguisher.
With the CO2 there is no problem.
For the powder ones you should have them checked.

Let this not be like a joking platform. It will be fine to use it however, the agent will come out abit faster than usually. Secondly you should avoid exposing it to too much sunshine/heat as it may explode with high temps

Yep, just use a small drill, and drill down 3 inches from the top to release any extra pressure....
Just kidding, throw it away, and go buy one from walmart.

If you put a nail in the side of it, it will release pressure slowly, then when it isn't over-charged, take the nail out, and tape the hole shut.

NO!! You need to smash it with a hammer to lower the pressure first.
