Definitely consider moving to an undesireable location (Alaska?). Gain some experience there, and then move back to the city of your choice after you've got some experience.

Why not try the country towns, we have a major lack of all medical proffesions available , we don't even have an optometrist here, you have to travel an hour to see one and then he is over booked because he is trying to look after his town plus the surrounding ones! We also only have 1 doctor ,to get an apointment you have to wait for up to 3/4 days,my 3yo has been sick all weekend ~have to wait still till tomorrow arvo for his apointment. Please think about the country towns not the city's.

If you are an optometrist, you are not fresh out of medical school - you are fresh out of optometry school... I'm going into my third year of optometry school. And why did you say optometrist"s"? Unless you are more than one, you are just an optometrist.

Try getting a headhunter or a locum agency. Although locum agencies tend to put you in temp positions, you could wind up getting hired.
