I loved Catcher in the Rye. But anyway the book that made me snooze I couldn't even get past page 3 was Smashed: A story of a drunken girlhood by Koren Zailckas. I missed that book club meeting for the month of May.

The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. I got a D one 6 weeks in high school because I couldn't get into it - I never got past the first chapter or so. Now I'm an English teacher - I'll never assign it to my students!

Straight Talking by Jane Green, I borrowed the book from a friend and I feel that the main character of the book is sooo very pathetic..

Knights of Charlemagne.

Couldn't stand it. I got to the part where Roland is battling the guy and they're trying to kill each other and then they get tired and go to sleep talking about God to each other. WTF? And then Roland kills him and the guy asks to be baptized. WTF? he died for his beliefs, and then he goes and converts in his last moments? I know it's supposed to be a classic, but I almost hurled!

There was this other one that was very very I mean deathly boring. It was a children's book, like chapter book. It was translated from French, but a very poor translation. It was also very prejudiced against chinese people. it was something about blue porcelain horses and these two guys trying to steal them. I couldn't pay attention to it for long enough to get what it was actually about.

Also Parks' Quest by I forget who the author is. Anyway, I had to read it for 7th grade. It was boring very boring! it's about this white-trashy kid who lives in some sort of fantasy world with dragons and knights and things like that. His dad died in Vietnam and he goes to his family and meets this vietnamese girl who turns out to be his dad's kid. yawn.

you know what's terrible? I tried reading the Bible once, I couldn't get past the first page of Genesis. The sentences were so choppy and awfully put together, there was no flow at all, and no explanation of why there was light, or why light listened to God, but I like to know why things happen in what I'm reading and I guess that's why my church leaders don't like me. Cause i thiink the Bible was very badly written,

Right now I am reading the first of His Dark Materials trilogy. it is pretty boring so far. Lyra just escaped from Mrs. Coulter and I am very comfused about daemons and Dust and everything. My friend read it, she says Lord Asriel turns out bad, and I'm waiting for that to happen. But everyone says they're really good so I'll just wait it out and it will probably get better.

"Star Begotten" by H. G. Wells. I tried reading it as a kid never made it past chapter 2. It really was my cure for insomnia, if I ever couldn't sleep then I just started reading it (trying to) and the next thing I knew it was morning.

I hated reading War and Peace. The battle sequences alone made me shudder. He'd describe the battle from six-plus points of veiw, and switch every five minutes! I needed to keep track of the action with a notepad.
