I am talking about the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. What are the characteristics that the couple need? What is a healthy love relationship about?

A healthy, mature relationship needs trust, honestly, respect, compassion, understanding, communication... all of it mutual.

Mature love is the kind of love that sees all the flaws and love the person in spite of them (or often, BECAUSE of them). It's the kind of love where you are ready and willing to put your partner's wants and needs ahead of yours (or at the very least, at the same level).

Or this: blind love might be "us" (as in a melded unit with no separate), immature love might be "you and me" (as in two separate people in the same context), and mature love might be "you and me in this together" (as in two individuals who choose to together create a strong unit).

Trust, communication, and a great sense of humor.

Life throws so much at people.. it no wonder marriages fail left and right. But being able to count on each other, laugh together even through the bad times, and talk to someone who really "gets" you.......

That's what makes you last once the dancing-in-the-rain and everything-is-golden times turn into "i can't seem to lose this last 20 pounds of pregnancy weight, the baby is teething, they cut back hours at his job, and rent is due on Friday".

Life throws you lots of lemons.. you need someone there willing to help you make that proverbial lemonade.

true trust. no wondering: why is he late? is he cheating?

understanding of one another: you must be on the same level as this person. understand them and their thoughts.

not necessarily an analgous life, but lifestyle. you dont have to have the same favorite movie, but you should be able to cuddle up and compromise.
