Mohandas Gandhi.
His invention of nonviolent opposition to tyranny was, in my opinion, the greatest and most original invention of political and ethical philosophy since Jesus admonished folks to love their enemies.
He successfully resisted the opportunity to personally capitalize (at the expense of others) on the success of his ideas.
He kept a cool head despite the most calculated and terrifying provocations to do otherwise.
He could be really funny, and usually in a way that made you smarter and happier.
