It is a sad state of affairs when I would seriously consider voting for Newt Gingrich if he were to run.
I look at what we have now and the Democrat choices over the past few elections and see nothing but big government politicians fighting between who wants more taxes or who wants more spending. Two choices that aren't much of a choice.
Newt Gingrich was integral in putting together the "Contract for America" and then got much of it implemented resulting in a boom in the economy (Give Clinton some credit, even though most Republicans remember him for his 'Monica' thing he didn't fight Congress too much in putting through their economic plans).
The "Contract for America" was mainly a package of small government initiatives including welfare reform and an end to Federal involvement in education. The welfare reform did go through but unfortunately education was left in place in the Federal government and since Bush was put in place it has grown into a huge beast.
Back in the late 90s I would've seen Gingrich as someone who wasn't libertarian enough and I would've voted for the Libertarian candidate in his place.
But now, with nothing but big government politicians in every aspect of Washington I might forgo my usual LP vote for a "Reagan Republican" if I felt my vote would be of any use.

I like Newt better than the current crop of corrupt neocons who put their own power above the interest of the nation. Newt strikes me as a principled person.
However, as a Republican myself, I feel so utterly betrayed not only by the current administration, but by the Republican party in general that I simply don't trust them to govern right now. The need a *huge* defeat in '08 to shock them back into doing what's right and not merely what's good for them.
I don't even trust McCain anymore.

Nah. He hasn't done enough to champion conservative issues in the last decade or so. In particular, he hasn't been active in dealing with abusive immigration. Tom Tancredo has done much more. He's got my vote for the nomination. Since the dems simply can't field a viable candidate, it's obvious whomever the republicans nominate is going to be elected by default.

Heck no! I use to consider myself republican and will never consider myself a democrat but i wouldn't vote for him if he ran against Hillary.
Id either move out of the country or vote libertarian. Likely id do those 2 in reverse order.
