The previous posters are correct. However, there is also a psychological element known as Intermittent Reinforcement. This means the player wins a small amount, once in a while, and that keeps him or her playing. It is not unlike training a dog to do tricks. He or she will perform for you, so long as you hand over a tasty treat once in a while.

its a sport...its fun....that one chance "could be you" and some people don't mind spending money for a little fun.....some people find it fun....
