Yes, probably because my step-dad used to through me out in the middle of creeks before I could swim and thought it was funny to watch me struggle, secondly a friend of mine who passed away about 3 years ago was diving in a creek and broke her neck and became a quadriplegic.

I personally love water. It puts me in a different place, in a way. I mean, on land you do so many things differently than water. It's amazing, in a way. You must breathe differently, walk a different way, you can just let yourself go and float in water, you can do flips without effort, etc. And it's a wonderful way to exercise!

Maybe you blocked out a bad experience when you were younger? Have you ever asked your parents about it? You could have had bad dreams about water when you were little, or even recently and you don't recall them. Do sharks scare you? Or other water creatures? That could come into play. There are various reasons for a fear of water... Sometimes you have to look really deep to find them.

Water in a sense, any amount of water. You drink and bathe don't you? Well, if you mean a large body of water like a pool, sea etc, it is possible that you are afraid of drowning or somethin. Hydrophobia is also a possibility.

Pool water, drinking water, bath water...no. I'm not so much afraid of ocean water but I *am* concerned about it when I go to the beach 'cause my parents are big on fishing and I've seen the stuff they've caught so close to shore. Even a pup shark can do it's damage so I'd rather not risk it.

There isn't anything bad about water... Take a bath, and tell yourself that massive bodies of water is just more bath water.

Maybe you saw a movie about water that scared you, maybe you imagined drowning very vividly, who knows?

What happens to you when you experience these fears? Anything physical?

P.S. The only fears humans are born with are the fear of loud noises, and the fear of falling, and all other fears are learned.

You will need to get professional help in the relatively NEAR FUTURE. If you are afraid of water, chances are you are dead. Water is essential for body maintenance. Take a chance and drink a glass. The stuff ain't that bad once you get used to it. On a serious note, you may need immersion therapy- no pun intended.

I am assuming you mean water to swim in. Some people just have an inherent fear of water from birth, and you don't have to have had a bad experience in your childhool that you don't remember. If you don't want to fear it, you could enroll in swim classes and explain to your instructor about your fear and he/she would help you ease into the water. I personally love the water, but I have since I was born. Again, some of us are water babies from birth and others never learn to overcome their fear. Always remember there's nothing wrong with your fear. Everybody has a fear of some sort and we should never judge one for whatever it is.

What's your context? You can't get the answer you want if you don't ask the question properly.
If someone made a dagger out of ice and chased me with it, of course I would be afraid of water...but if it's sitting in a glass on the table in a fancy restaurant, nah...not afraid of that.
If I'm floating in the ocean after my cruise ship sank, yeah...I'ld be plenty afraid...but sitting in the bath tub with my beatiful wife, then, nope, fear is the furthest thing from my mind.
So....work on your question asking skills and be more specific...Remember, if you don't specify, any answer is the right answer.

I'm not afraid of water, but my mother is and she's 60 years old this year. She grew up inland, in MT and OR and never had swimming lessons, never went much further out into a lake or the ocean other than a few steps. She took swimming lessons when she was in her 30's when we lived in GA, but didn't ever put them to use. When we'd go lap swimming, it was all in shallower water. Vacationing in Hawaii one year, we went out to Molokini (a sunken volcano crater in the Pacific) to snorkle.. she would NOT get into the water! I took all kinds of underwater pictures and she saw what she missed. Two years later we returned and she got to see for herself - she did it. I'd recommend swimming lessons and slowly taking steps to the deeper water... you can get over it!
