y + 2 2/5 = 5 4/15
y+ 12/5 = 79/15
y= 79/15 - 12/5
y= 79- 36 divided by15
y= 43/15
y= 2 13/15

y+2 2/5 = 5 4/15
Multiple through by 3/3, which is really 1. (y+2) * 3/3, 2/5 * 3/3, 5 * 3/3. You don't need to multiple 4/15 by 1. That should help get you started without giving you the answer. Sorry, I don't want to get you in trouble for cheating if you are doing homework.

1) find a common denominater; y + 2(6/15) = 5 (4/15)
2) 2=30/15; 5=75/15
3) y + 36/15 = 79/15
4) subtract the 36/15; y=79/15 - 36/15
5) y= 43/15 which cannot reduce, so you're answer is 43/15

y = 5 4/15-2 2/5
y= 79/15 - 12/5
y= 79/15 - 36/15
y= 43/15
y= 2 13/15

y+12/5=79/15
therefore 79/15-12/5=y
79-36/15=y{equalizing the denominators}
therefore y=43/15
ans: y=43/15

if i'm not wrong your question should be like this.
(y+2)(2/ 5)=5(4/15)
then,
(y+2)(2/5)=20/15
y+2=(20*5)/(15*2)
y=(100/30)-2
finally, y=1.3333.
