The War On Terror. Hmm. Is that anything like the war in drugs?Or the war on poverty? Is it not a fact that since both of those wars were declared that the situation got worse? The war on terror is designed to scare the cr*p out of you. That way you will approve of a bigger police force, more surveillance, a reduction of liberties and a war mongering administration to "protect" you. And to avoid any fearful feelings you'll go out and spend your money on something-anything that will keep you feeling good for just 1 minute...and then you'll go buy something else when the other thing doesn't work anymore. And just like the cocaine addict, you'll continue to run after your own tail until it kills you. The War on Terror is a war on the American people by the powers that we elected. Oh, by the way, why can't the greatest country in the world catch one lone old arab? Because then, the war on terror would be over.

If you mean agression and invasion to Iraq, then it seems not. That was clear from the beginning, and that is why most countries did not want to join. How many people killed in there? 50,000? Or 100,000? Is not it a sensible question? 'War on terror' is a good and short word sequence - just 3 words, - convenient for the present goverment. Media should have been much more critical and independent before all this happened. Now it is too late to be 'critical' when everything became so obvious to almost anybody.

You still think we can we a war on terror? That is an unrealistic goal as long as there are governments terrorism will always exist. Terrorism is an idea and a motivation which some people use to make a point. Like the war on drugs america is creating its own problems, we are the largest drug consumer in the world so its our own fault we have the war in the first place. we created the war on terror and there will always be terrorism as long as we keep promoting it.

I really like the way these questions allow people to slam on anyone they want, and to share their views of things that have nothing to do with the question.
AS for winning the war on terror? No. I don't think it is possible to win. AS the one poster stated, there will ALWAYS be another terrorist waiting to take the place of those we eliminate. What we can do, however is make certain portions of the world safer for a period of time.
Example:
There is a block in NY that used to be a hotbed of drugs and illegal activity. That is no longer the case. The neighbors on that block got together, and took their street back. Did it stop the drugs in their community? No. It did, however, make thier part of their town safer.
The war on terror is the same scenario. We will make area "A" safer, and the terrorists move elsewhere.

Noone Wins war. Millions of innocent men and woman were killed. Mothers and Fathers. the media always has some bullshi* to say. I do believe that terrorist have always plaqued america But noone noticed until the terrorist were of a different nationalty and that the rich people were hit no offense to anyone 9-11 who lost someone but america has enough issues within ourselves yet we keep inviting more and more people in. people who dont give a damn about our country and just want to use us for our resources so they can go back to they're and live like kings.Nothing wrong but its sad when you have people born raised and breeding here who cant catch a break. Too many people here have health problems and our education system is horrible. so lets think about the homeland terror everyone seems to ignore.

That depends. When are we planning on starting to fight it? The engagement in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror, and anyone who is naive enough to thinks so shouldn't be allowed out of their home without an adult escort.

You can't defeat terror by invading a country or bombing a city. You have to fight terror on it's level. You can't excise a single cancerous cell from an organ with a sword, you need a scalpal.

Of course, with idiots like Bush, Rice and Rumsfield in charge, common sense doesn't come into the equation.

Terrorism is a tactic, not an enemy. You cannot fight a war against a tactic, especially not by using that tactic yourself like we are doing in Iraq. One soldier has already been charged with rape and murder, and now four more are being investigated. And just think how many more cases go unnoticed amidst the chaos we have created. This IS Vietnam, my friend. But with more massacres. Why use men with guns when you can just drop a 2000 lb bomb? We've bombed hospitals, homes, schools, wedding parties, mosques, and killed thousands if not tens of thousands of innocent iraqi civilians. So, therefore, I simply pose this: if those who rule the United States want to end terrorism, they might want to start by killing themselves.

Nope, and you might as well forget blaming the media. ' Ye shall reap as yea has sown.' All those centuries of the West exploiting the poorer nations, and imposing & expounding upon their ethno-centric ideas are coming home to roost. A critical mass is building among 'Third World countries' and the disinfranchised and prejudiced against everywhere which will finally dominate dispite &/or because of the brute force we feel compellede and justified in using.

How about winning the War on Error first:

The US screwed up by funding the Taliban in the 1970s.
The US screwed up by giving a printing press and other materials to the Shah to print money, later used by the fundy muslims in Iran to fund anti-US activities.
The US screwed up by arming of Saddam Hussein in the 1980s with chemical and biological weapons.
The US screwed up by not proving there were WMDs in Iraq.
The US screwed up by not making their case with facts and getting UN support.
The US screwed up by not arming their military properly or sending sufficient forces or having even a plan or a *clue* about how to invade Iraq.

When the US conducts a war on *error*, or even admits to it, I'll be impressed.

The "media is the problem"...only for people who think Joseph Goebbels should control the press.

The war on terror will NEVER be won. When one terrorist is taken out, ten more fill the space.

Just take a look at the War on Drugs.
