ARE you really serious???? There will always be criminal elements in society, and I for one do not want to bow down and give them ANYTHING. I would rather die free, than hiding quivering with no rights, and living in a fish bowl.
Personal rights are the epitone of personal happiness.

Absolutely not. If you think the US government would stop at capturing terrorists, then you need to take off your rose-colored glasses. If you give the government absolute power (which is exactly what you'd be doing if you gave up all your privacy rights), the government will use it and never relinquish it.

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security." -- Ben Franklin

It is oxymoronic (i.e contradictory) to defend freedom by giving it up. If America becomes a closed police state but there are no terrorist attacks in it, then you have lost. Don't forget, everyone has to die eventually. Don't let your fear of dying in a terrorist attack (still only a remote improbability) lead you to give up the freedom you claim to be fighting for.

There's something called risk management, which recommends that the extent to which you go to avoid risk be based on how likely the risk is.

Terrorism is frightening, but it's also extremely rare. So, it's not very rational for a society to cripple itself in fear of it.

It's also worth mentioning that a lack of privacy does not make society safer, it usually puts it in jeopardy.

There is no privacy. There isn't even a right to privacy.

If you think what you do in the privacy of your home is nobody's business, try growing pot in your garage, or downloading kiddie porn on your bedroom computer.

If you are not doing anything that would link you up as a terrorist, I do not think you have anything to worry about.

I know you are thinking, Those who give up there freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security. It does not apply during time of War.

Nice try though!

Are you a suspected terrorist? If not, then I wouldn't be worried about losing your privacy.

No. What's the point of living in a totalitarian state?

Better to have freedom in our country and have terroroists go free, than the alternative.

To all these right wing bush lovers, Maybe you're right, if we have nothing to hide, why get all worked up about our government spying on us and monitoring our phone calls. Maybe they are right in keeping track of who does what and whose saying what. So I've got a great idea, let's start by registering every firearm and its owner in the country? I mean.... if you've got nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about! Right?????

No, while most people have nothing to hide it is still the principle that they are taking away... if they're allowed to tap our phone calls today tomorrow there will be video cameras in our living rooms...
