Setting aside liberal beliefs, what behaviors, attitudes, lifestyle, etc. do you find offensive, if any? Is it all liberals, or just certain types?

If you feel comfortable, please leave your age and location.

I am a liberal (33, CA) and I'm hoping other liberals will have the strength to listen, and to just disregard anything disagreeable. This is an opportunity to learn what turns people off and prevents dialogue, because let's face it... the right and the left are here to stay.

How can you ask us about what we don't like about liberals but then tell us to set aside liberal beliefs?

Isn't the very thing that ties all liberals together their belief in liberal ideals?

That is the only thing I don't like about liberals are their beliefs, otherwise they are individuals with their own mannerisms that I would have to like or dislike on an individual basis.

And it's not like I don't like their beliefs, everyone has a right to their opinions whether I agree with them or not, I don't like when their beliefs result in the government use of force against myself. The same with all other beliefs.

People I can consider 'real' liberals are fine. One thing that annoys me are people who are leftist liberals, and want to claim they AREN'T liberals. Why not stand up for what you believe, especially if it's reactionary ? I think it's odd how the Republicans are now the conservative party, when the basis of much of their successes was made supporting progressive causes. Teddy Roosevelt even split off to create the "Progressive party" when the Republicans wouldn't champion enough of his causes.

The hypocrisy and negativity of too much of the Democratic machine is very disheartening. They have taken a stance that makes fundamentalist Christians look open minded. And given much of recent politics, since they are defending the status quo, doesn't that make THEM 'conservatives' in that sense ? When it comes to a lot of government programs, the only difference seems to be in which programs are protected, and that actually seems to have more to do with what pork gets sent 'back home'. Although that is understandable, it doesn't imply a lot of backbone on either side.

On the subject of lifestyles and behaviors, the 'Hollywood elite' do their share to turn people off. Too many "talk the talk" but don't walk the walk. I might think Angelina Jolie is a bit of a flake, but she's more involved in what she's trying to support than many. And Johnny Depp moved to France, and still manages to make more sense than some of the blowhards who keep THREATENING to move to France. Just arriving at a premier in a Prius isn't enough. Live in a sensible house all the time, buy up a big chunk of land and put up a wind farm, do something real, instead of expecting someone else to do it after you touted the 'good idea'.

I'm a liberal, let's say that I support about 75% of the liberal viewpoint, parting company as far as environmental issues go (I'm too focused on poverty in this country and while the environment is a serious concern, it isn't a priority in the way that poverty issues are).

I also part company with the liberals as far as racial issues, in the sense of being willing to give a certain racial group a free pass and allow their bad behavior to go unchallenged, for fear of being called a racist, and many liberals (even white liberals) are guilty of that.

I'm all for PC (as I see as common decency) but at the same time, we shouldn't be afraid of telling it as we see it. I define liberalism as freedom and free thinking, and I won't apologize for my free thinking, even if it doesn't fall totally within the liberal agenda.

Hugo Black and William Douglas were both liberal Supreme Court Justices. I like Black very, very much and I despise Douglas with an indescribable passion. Black usually interpretted the U.S. Constitution outstandingly well and he was honest. Douglas interpretted the Constitution whatever way he pleased and he was a pretentious hypocrite. Look at Douglas' opinion for the Court majority in Griswold v. Conn. and compare that to Black's dissent. Look at Douglas' opinion for the Court majority in Harper v. Va. Brd of Elec. and compare it to Black's dissent. Look at Douglas' opinion for the Court majority in Levy v. La. and Glona v. Amer. Guar. and compare those with Black's opinion for the majority in Labine v. Vincent. And while you're reading all those opinions, remember that both men were liberals.

Feel free to email me if you would like an honest discussion with a conservative.

Liberals... I'm all about freedom. But liberty cannot exist without law, morality, and justice.

By pushing political correctness as a form of censorship, socialism and communism as a form of organized theft, and publicly funded agnosticism and the ACLU as the death of our right to worship freely and educate our children about morality and about faith, the left has undermined liberty itself.

Political correctness makes everything which can be considered offensive to be ruled unacceptable in our society, which is supposed to be free. If God, morality, or logic is offensive to people, then those things aren't allowed in a discussion.

The justice system has also been perverted by liberals. The ACLU, which is the most liberal organization I've ever come across, defends pro bono the NAMBLA people, who are admitted promoters of child rape and pedophilia, as well as the bestiality, polygamy, and transsexual groups. Meanwhile, they attack a cross on a war memorial because it is offensive to people.
The double standards have to end.

Listen, these may be broad strokes I am using. Please understand, I am a former liberal. I still support liberal causes such as PETA and environmentalism, conservationism, and healthy choices. However, the drug users, hood gangs, abortionists, militant atheists, militant gays, militant feminists, militant socialists, and other assorted liberals are just groups I cannot identify with.

I believe that liberals want the world to be a better place. But all too often, they attack morality as an oppressive, bigoted thing, rather than the one redeeming aspect of humanity, the sole reason why we are not animals, the sole reason why we are not savages. Without logic, objectivism, moderation, and a single standard of law, morality, and justice, our society becomes chaotic. I cannot condone these things in the name of absolute freedom (or in the case of globalism, communism, and socialism, absolute government).

I know a lot of liberals. My entire family, for example. I love them dearly. I simply disagree with them, that's all.

As for behaviors, snotty attitudes and superiority complexes are found on both sides of the aisle. These are not politically related aspects of a person's character. They simply reflect who they really are on the inside. Not all liberals, conservatives, or flip-floppers are equal in terms of maturity and so forth, therefore there is no specific complaint about all liberals' attitudes or mannerisms, etc... except perhaps those who are openly anti-law/society/morality and try to shove it in your face.

Those gay pride parades, too. I have no problem with gay people being gay. I have a problem with public displays of blatant sexuality in front of little children. Many of these people are dressed in drag, barely dressed, and fornicate in public. These are things even straight people are not allowed to do. There is also no reason to single out the gay community and give them a day of rubbing it in our faces. I don't hold straight pride parades, where topless women and strippers ride the laps of random men on gaudy floats dedicated to male/female sexuality. It just further marginalizes the gay community. It's as though they want to be seperate, not equal, always looked at as the outsider, victim, and desperate for attention. It just turns my stomach, and I'm one of those people who would otherwise support the rights of people regardless of sexual preference. They aren't doing themselves any favors with these parades. It's like the snotty attitude of the survey handed out at a public school attacking straight people with the reverse wording of questions typically asked of gay people, such as "why do you think you are gay?". The arrogant attitude and self-importance, as well as a lack of understanding, is precisely why I cannot support liberalism. They have finally decided to no longer try to undertsand or listen to other people's opinions. It's liberal extremism, or nothing at all.

Frankly, it's liberals themselves who converted me to conservatism. That's not to say there aren't a lot of really nice liberals out there. Please don't be offended. But there are a lot of really self-important, bigoted, prejudiced, and hateful, partisan hacks out there as well who say stupid things like "Bush is Hitler".

You will never reach the hearts and minds of your fellow Americans with a reductio ad Hitlerum argument.

Finally, Tom Cruise. That's all I have to say about Hollywood liberals. That's the only explanation needed. The way he bashed all of modern medicine and forced his incredibly bogus Scientology ideas on the public while at the same time belittling his interviewer, I think it was Matt Lauer or somebody, he is one of the reasons why the public all across the nation is disgusted by the Hollywood kooks. The whole eating of the placenta thing too. That's just gross.
