To add to what Magicman said:

That is FLAT RATE // not Salary -- Salary mechanic's get paid crap (because most Salary wrench's are morons and cannot make it in a real shop - they know just enough and have just enough in tools to fool whoever they are working for).

My RL friend is 18 years in on his military mechanic stint -- and nothing against you or the military, but do not come out of there expecting to start turning wrench's in a shop and making money / the difference between what you do in that shop - either light duty or heavy (line) duty and a domestic shop is like night and day. He borrowed my bay to try and change his front axle on a front wheel drive ford / was telling me how he does the hard stuff on the military this or that / and it took him so dang long that I sent him to buy lunch while I finished the job.

My brother did A&P for a while (he was not real good at it) and he made VERY good money at it, and the enviroment is much closer to what you are used to in the military.

IMHO of course.

A fully qualified ASE Certified Master Automotive tech working in a excellent shop can make 90k a year or more on a flat rate scale.
Most ASE Master Techs with 10 + years experience will and are making between 62K and 80K a year in calif, I personally made a little over 85K last year I live in Santa Cruz Ca but I work in Santa Clara Ca which is in Northern Calif.
