That's kind of small-minded. If you mean "hippy" as a way of labeling people who are free-spirited...Many free-spirited individuals are very good at being understanding, unbiased and unprejudiced against people from other walks of life. Studying people from other cultures requires one to be anti-ethnocentric...which "hippies" typically are...but I hope you don't mean "hippy" in a derrogative manner.

They can be antroplogists if they want, and they will still only be in their 40s and 50s some older than that if they were actually free spirits. Then you have the children of the hippies. These are some darn cool people too. But I'd have to say that your question is negatively put. If you were a free spirit, then you wouldn't have asked it that way. You'd be like hey man where's all the free spirits in here? But the way the free spirit lives, is completely complimented through anthropological thought. Thats why they take it as a study. Here's a no brainer: Who thought up anthropology as a study?

I suppose it has to do with the perception of what a "hippie" is in american culture. Since anthropology is the study of culture, most anthropologists would in fact be the antethesis of what most americans consider to be valuable.

In fact I have noticed this. I do not know the reason, but I think those who didn't see it are in denial. Perhaps they are afraid to make a judgement call. Maybe they were never in hippie culture and just do not know. Those in anthropology are attracted by the foreign and exotic. I suppose there is the answer.

Not sure what you mean, exactly. My degree is in anthropology and I bathe, shave, and don't smoke dope... My classmates and teachers were pretty clean, too, so I'm not seeing the trend. I'll answer if I can if you get more specific...
