Depends on your receiver....Some people only use name brand products and others are store brand users. Also is this a first time mom? They tend to want the "best" for their baby--they'll use name brand diapers, buy all the bell and whistles. After the first baby, a mommy realizes how to shop smart and is grateful for even the store brand products. I personally would be happy to get a basket full of baby products. I think either would be fine!! :) Good Luck

Depends on the mom. If shes more of the down to earth sensible type shed probably appreciate having more and relize that theres not much difference. If shes more of a brand lover(wears name brand stuff, has to have all top notch baby gear) then you'd be better off not going the dollar store route. Really either way she'll apprciate what she gets, just do what you can afford. A cheap nice present I recieved for a shower was stuff probably from a dollar store like wash clothes booties and bibs all tucked into a great little basket(as a new mom Baskets really have helped me organize all kinds of stuff). You can never have enough of this stuff and noone really looks for brands on this type of stuff anyway since you go through it so quickly. And really presention can make a big difference and doesn't have to be expensive If shes having a girl baby barrets would be cheap too, or maybe even some bath salts for her that you could put in a baby food jar and decoraye with some ribbon(something i got from a crafty friend, that i loved)Good luck!

It depends on the items. I recieved many baby shower gifts that I recognized from the local Dollar Tree store, and they've been quite handy. Just make sure that what you're buying is decent stuff- some things, like baby oil, are the same no matter what brand you buy or where you get it. Others, like candles, can have a HUGE difference in quality depending on the brand (I've never found good candles at a $1 store). Hope this helps!

It's okay if the person doesn't know that the items are from the $1 store. Bottles from the dollar store will give the baby gas, so skip that. And if the item looks like it's from 20 years ago, it probably is, so skip that too.
I say do a 50/50 basket.

Its OK to got to the $ store and they too have some things that are brand name, you can fill the basket with things like wash clothes, baby mittens, socks, rattles, teething gel, and to conceal the fact that they may be from a $ store take the rattles and such out of their packaging and if you want you can get one nice thing and put it in the basket with them, they will think you spent allot when you may have only spent around $30 or so !Good luck!

Sure why not, then you could add a personal touch to the mother, get her some fuzzy socks, an address book to write down important #'s of people to call after the baby is born, lip balm, foot lotion and put it in its own bag (you could buy that stuff at the dollar stuff too) i agree with the sensitive skin someone else mentioned. But you could buy other stuff.

The best thing I got when I had newborns was a BIG pack of Diapers and baby wipes! Newborns go through so many diapers (a dozen or more a day) and new parents especially don't realize it and end up making many trips to the store.

Go to the clearance rack at Kohls, great deals! Jazz up the gift with dollar store gift wrap, a bag, the paper, & you'll have an awesome gift. If it's a large party, buy something a size bigger.

A lot of dollar store products are made by the same company of name brand products. They have the same ingredients...just packaged differently and it changes the price! But it really depends on who you are giving it to. Some people are really snotty.

2 or 3 brand name things is just fine. You dont need to overdo it. Some PJ's, a rattle and maybe a pack of diapers. I was so happy to get those things at my baby shower!
