It depends on which branch of engineering you want to study. There are top engineering departments at MIT, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, and elsewhere.

Georgia Tech has surpassed MIT in most of the engineering degrees plus it is less expensive. But I warn you to be very serious, because the classes are probably the hardest you can take. I would also like to say that you can get your first two years somewhere else and transfer to GT and it will say GT on your diploma I know a few people that have done that and they loved it, because freshman year at Georgia Tech is very hard.

I think Georgetown University, in Washington D.C. would be my first choice.
I am an Engineer, and if I could have gone to any school, anywhere, I would have picked Georgetown.
I Graduated from N.Y.U. That was before I decided to become an Engineer. I went to Carnegie Mellon as a Post Graduate.

North Carolina Stated University has a very good School of Engineering. If I knew what your concentration would be in (mechanical, electrical, etc,) I could have offered some other suggestions also.

The best university to study anything is one where you would want to spend time learning from your peers and professors. So I'd advise you to check out the student body. Where will the student body be 20 years from when you graduate? Also, who writes the "textbooks" that all the other universities use?
