Not actually that long. The Sony AR series for laptops will have a Blu-ray writer / reader in a laptop with 200GB total HDD and a top of the line UXGA (1900x1200) screen. The Sony will come in Ocotober. They are a very attractive model with a price tag of around 2.5k dollars. The actual writer for desktops will cost around 800 dollars in 2 months for PC. Macs may never adopt blu-ray but if they do you would have to wait at least 12 monthes. The first blu-ray writers will have a storage capacity of 50GB dual layer but the ones in 2007 will have a quad layer capacity of 100GB.

Whenever consumers decide it is worth the cost for the benefits. It really isn't in the demand for most people right now, given the cheaper DVD recordables. The high cost of the hardware plus the on-going struggle with HD DVD makes it hard for the consumers to back one boat.
