YES YES YES... And thank God I'm not genetically related to my family. But it also has a lot to do with the way your socialized, by your family. Maybe your dad works alot or your mom constantly cleans or constantly tries to meet everyones needs. Even these are addictive behaviors that children unconsciencely learn. It always seems to show up in early adulthood.

Yes!- I believe we have genetic memories passed down to us all-just like insect's and animal's in order for a species to survive it's a necessity; The draw back's are indeed the bad habit's of ones ancestor's- but they're only drawbacks.Hence your brother and family; The fact you are already aware of this means you can overcome these inherent traits;Practice creating new (productive) habits in your self-"two hours a day on this site would be a good start, provided you stay within the 'guidelines'-Like this you can turn it into an advantage;I have taken every bad habit in me i can find ,and replaced it with a good one,the effects on me and those around me have been quite stunning.Good luck ,keep at it and you'll see.ktfx

IMHO and from painful experience, it does. There are a lot of drunks in my family, so I decided at an early age to never touch an alcoholic drink, lest I not be able to stop.
Now I'm 44, successful in life, and still a teetotaler.
