It may sound like it's overused, but you could do a beach theme, and just spice it up a bit. Use a lot of bright colors, flip flops, sand, umbrellas, suntan lotion etc. I saw this really neat recipe for a cake that was shaped like a pair of flip flops and crumbled cake beneath it for the sand. Even if you don't live near a beach, you can always play water games in the backyard.

how about an aqua theme? all the sea and blue... colorful fishes and exotic underwater plants... my sis had that one when she was 10.

Pirate theme all the way honey...this way you can do half pirate and half tropical...eye patches and leighs....peg legs and hula skirts...whatever you choose, have fun!!! :)
