Mixed decimals are very rare in the business world, which is why I don't cover it in my business math class. Plus, it would most likely confuse a lot of students.
However, the KEY to handling this is to first divide out the fraction by dividing the top number (5) by the bottom (7). This gives you the decimal value 0.714285.
Then you keep the first 2 decimal places (0.71) and add what fraction the rest would be. 3/7 has a decimal value of 0.4285, which is the rest of the value.
So your final answer would be 0.71 3/7.
FYI, mixed decimals are simply a way to shorten things so you don't have tons of decimal places, but as I said earlier, it's not real common in the "business world."

The answer to your first problem is the third choice: 0.71 3/7
The answer to your second problem is 3/8.
0.37 1/2 = 0.375 = 375/1000 = 3/8

I agree with flyercam2.
It has been awhile since I came across mixed decimals, which I don't think is very practical in everyday usage. A fully converted decimal of 0.7143 would be more useful.
