wouldn't it make for a more peaceful world? There would be one set of laws, one governing body, one society, and we would be able to focus on making one Government work for the betterment of all people. Instead we have many countries with many different governments, different laws, different societies and we try to "deal" with each government and often don't improve anything. Just want your thoughts. Thanks.

No, I don't think so because there is too much variety in the world, at least right now. Perhaps in years to come, people will become so similar that one world government might become a better idea. A world government of sorts may well be needed in the future to represent the Earth to our intergalactic neighbors. What form that government might take will have to be determined. Perhaps some sort of United Nations might be good. On the other hand, one world government might be one of the signs of the coming of the end times, at least according to some. I don't want to get into that. I guess what I'm really saying is that we have no way of detemining if this would be good or bad. We'll just have to wait and see. Just noticed askthepizzaguy's answer which sounded pretty good, except I'm not familiar with every state's right to seceed from the United States. I thought that was a major factor in fighting the War Between the States. I have heard, however, that Texas, when it came into the Union, was so large that it was granted the "right" to break up into four states if desired. No, I don't have a source for that.

Absolutely not. Germany wanted to rule the world, and I assure you, things would not have been better under his rule, or Mussolini's rule, or Japanese rule. Things would be terrible under any conquering nation's rule, because they are by definition destroying sovereignty and law and peace by the sword. This is why the United States has given back the sovereignty of all of the territories it achieved through conquest since the 50th state joined the union. Also, each of the 50 states has a right to secede from the nation and become it's own government. We gave back western Germany, Italy, all of northern Africa, Japanese occupied territories, and every single nation we have had war with we have give back land and sovereignty.

We don't want to conquer the world, or let anyone else do that, because with one government, there will be absolute tyranny. There would be no way to resist the supremacy of a united global military, which would be under direct control of a corrupt authority of absolute power.

The fact is, every government is corrupt. That's human nature. But by placing one small group of people in charge of the world's combined military might would mean surrendering to the will of those people, whose laws would be absolute and dictatorial.

Human nature is too evil and corrupt to be allowed that kind of power. Individual sovereignty must be maintained at all costs, or freedom becomes an illusion.

Any global state would be inherently socialist at best, communist most likely, and the rights of any citizen would never be upheld under their rule. Any dissenter would be executed.

Globalism will end freedom as we know it.

Well the idea of a one world government is something of a taboo and decadent topic. People usually think of this idea as one system of rules for the entire world to live by. However, for something like that to work and to stand the test of time it would need to be something that is flexible and adaptive to changing times. Certainly some international laws would be in place for the entirety of the world with a few variations with respect to the different cultures in different areas. Possibly after a generation or two there could be a true international language even thoug esperanto seemed to fall miserably flat.

You really have to think- will this one set of laws work on EVERY different culture? The answer is no. Where it may work for one country it might not work for another country. If that one country tried to force their set of laws on another- the other might retaliate because their set of laws dont work on their culture and society

No, read history and see what megalomaniacs have done in the past. Why would you want everybody doing the same thing and how would you feel if the governing body was bad and there was no escape? Everybody would be robotic and racism would rule.

i dont think that that would work out very well. keep in mind that the reason those countries have different laws and societies is because thats what they want and believe. it wouldnt go very well if one country changed all of it for everyone else.

Yes, kinda like the United States of Earth, some people figure we would lose our culture, but I think they're more afraid of losing our power.
