I wouldn't worry about what the family thinks. They are likely "old school" and have trouble accepting "new" fads or styles. You sound normal to me, especially if you're a teenager.
Of course, having said that, you should not accept the norm from anyone else, or take what anyone else says at face value. Create your own norm and be happy to be your own wonderful, unique, beautiful self, inside and out.

Hon don't worry too much about it what if they don't care or love you? well you should be worried about more impirtant things like i don't know Poverty in Africa, have you not been ready the question of out celebrity of the week? What? No! Well thats a little incensitive here something to help you feel better and it comes brom Bono himself:
"Love And Peace Or Else"
Lay down
Lay down
Lay your sweet lovely on the ground
Lay your love on the track
We're gonna break the monster's back
Yes we are...
Lay down your treasure
Lay it down now brother
You don't have time
For a jealous lover
As you enter this life
I pray you depart
With a wrinkled face
And a brand new heart
I don't know if I can take it
I'm not easy on my knees
Here's my heart you can break it
I need some release, release, release
We need
Love and peace
Love and peace
Lay down
Lay down your guns
All your daughters of Zion
All your Abraham sons
I don't know if I can make it
I'm not easy on my knees
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
We need
Love and peace
Love and peace
Baby don't fight
We can talk this thing through
It's not a big problem
It's just me and you
You can call or I'll phone
The TV is still on
But the sound is turned down
And the troops on the ground
Are about to dig in
And I wonder where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Love and peace

Well, congratulations on having a sense of originality. You don't mention how old you are, but from your question, I'm guessing your at a self-discovery stage, which is an awesome age to be at.
Like someone earlier posted, be glad they notice what you're doing. Sadly enough, there are adolescent girls who can go through a whole pregnancy and their families don't even notice. That would be an extreeme situation and no, I'm not comparing dying your hair to having a baby at a young age. I'm just using it as an example to let you know that..they only say stuff because they care. Just try to take how they say it with a grain of salt!

Be whatever you want to be. If you want dark brown hair, so be it. Wearing eyeliner does not mean that you are goth or punk, you just want to make yourself more beautiful than you already are. You are totally normal, girl. Live life freely.

I know it's upsetting but the truth is some people will just talk about others no matter what. It doesn't matter how old you get...they will always find something to gossip about. Ask yourself this...do you like the way you look? Are you dressing this way because you enjoy it and not just because you want to fit in with others? Be true to yourself. As for the family...let them talk. Who cares? It just means that their lives are so boring they have focus on you because you're actually out there living! Best of luck to you!

Guess what? Everybody likes to gossip and if you can get more than one with a little authority they will pick on someone. A lot of the time that is unfair and they don't really dislike you. When ranks are pulled they will side with family. If you are being who you are tell them and explain that you love and respect them. If you are trying out different looks tell them that and ask them to like you for who you are.

Normal is subjective--what is normal for you may not be normal for others. It hurts when they talk about you, but let it go, they have to get used to it. Once they do, you'll have a great time with it. Be yourself, no matter what. Talk to your parents about this and let them know it hurts, maybe they can step up to the plate for you and make it stop. My family talked about me, too, but I told them that I am an individual and not like them, then my mom told them the same thing, and they left me alone...then apologized later. Smile a lot when they talk about you, it makes them wonder what you're up to next. :-)

You are normal! You've stepped "outside the box" and you are discovering who "you" are! Not everyone will always "agree" or understand you...but just so you're happy with "who" you are and what you do with your life..making sure that it's constructive...then....you have alot to be proud of! Stepping outside of the box than what your family has always done....is brave and wearing eyeliner....well, it's harmless! Goodness~ Be beautiful and just be you~

There is no such thing as normal, i once died my hairblack, and i always wore makeup, including eyeliner, it didnt make me gothic but people did say things to me, not necessarily mean things, but things about my appearance and why i am doing it, they get used to it after a while and then look at themselves and realise they are the plain boring ones who have to amuse themselves by talking about other people...dont let them get to you

That just proves that you are on the right path--you're an individual with a mind of her own. Don't let them get to you--people are uncomfortable with differences of any kind.
