Jan 01 I quit smoking,by end of feb. I was depressed and anxious. Mid March I was totally dead feeling.I went to my doctor .I was given Paxil, with the sentence "If this does not work there are 20more WE CAN TRY". I took my paxil hoping I would not have to try 20 others before I felt better.
I had a reaction the first night I took it. But, wanting to feel better I took it EVERY NIGHT, I could NOT sleep after ONLY THREE days on PAXIL. DAY 3 THRU 6 I grew paranoid that something was going to happen to my family if I slept.WHAT A NIGHTMARE PRAYING TO MAKE IT TO MORNING SO THAT I might have a good reason to be awake and NoRmAl. HA! IT was the worst time of my life and I have even had a few attempts on my life that were easier to face than this drug. I finally decompensated to believing I WAS the THREAT to my FAMILY! I stayed in bed for a few nights awake praying I would NOT hurt my family. After 2 weeks I begged my husband to take me to a hospital. My diagnosis WAS MED induced psychosis.

Yes, I took antidepressants once...the Dr. prescribed taking several of the tablets at bedtime...with instructions to reduce the dosage each day...down to one...thank God I took them at bedtime and presumably slept through most of the effect. The next day I barely functioned in a "fog" all day...and just as I felt the "fog" begin to lift...I felt so much relief, my joy only lasted those few seconds, because as the "fog" lifted deep, dark, anger set in...I could have killed someone. I went home flushed the whole bottle of pills and isolated myself till the effects wore off. I met Rusty Yates on an airline shuttle once about 4 years ago, we spoke and I expressed my deepest sympathy for his loss, his children and his wife. Medications are overly prescribed and experimental. Stand at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy and watch the number of people carrying their prescription bottles in large zip lock bags to the counter...it is so sad. I say, " Say No to the meds and yes to the power of your mind...it is designed to keep you in perfect health and the potential is within us all. Learn self hypnosis or visit a hypnotherapist. It's all Mind Over Matter!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like you had an excess of serotonin, which, while rare, can happen. I have depression that is caused by a lack of norepinephrine. If I took an SSRI like paxil I could have a similar reaction or even seizures (that actually happened when I took paxil).

My suggestion is to see a psychiatrist for your meds from here on out. Perhaps try a norepinepherine-only antidepressant such as desipramine.

Good luck!

It's your own fault for continuing to take it when you had a bad reaction the first night. You should have seen your doctor immediatly.
