Why do most of you like what Zidane did and say thats what he should of done when NO ONE knows what happened. you cant say what he did was good if you dont kow the reason behind it. for all you know Zidane could of said something to Matterazzi and he said something back to him and it was Zidane that started it all. no one knows.

You are right when you say no one really knows what transpired between the two. The fact is we probably will really never know. I do not condone or like what Zidane did today, but I feel that it was not a temper thing alone, he seemed to snap. He would have understood how his sending off would have affected his team and how it would change the game, that is why I am so confused and reserving the temptation to judge him to the harshest extent. I think it must for him have been a little more than just being trash talked. The thing is so much is an accepted part of the game now that no lines are drawn on ethics and fairness anymore.

But I sort of feel sorry for all the players involved, both sides, as the fantastic final they gave us is being overshadowed. It was truly a great game that went all the way and what more could you ask of for a final.

Congratulations to Italy but to France also. For me as a neutral, thanks for the great game. It was a match both deserved to win and neither really deserved to lose.

I agree with all you people what Zidane did it's against the spirit of the game but i also want to say that punishment is also given to both not to one player. From the replay its clear that the mistake was made by italian player by holding the jersy of Zidane and when he was walking back the italian player said something. If you people observe the whole match from that it's look like that Italian team from the start of the play targeted Zidane with some odd manners. One player who made mistake pay the price and but the other not. So Fifa has to be consider these things. any type of offense, physical, verbal or anything else should be stopped b/c it's distroying the spirit of game

I know I am not the best person to answer this question bc I was pulling for Italy...but honestly, there was NO need for Zidane to do that. Regardless of what Materazzi said, he should have just let it go. That is the last game of your professional career and you just went out like THAT. It's sad. I really thought he was a good player and had MUCH respect for him until he did that. SAD!

How do you know Materazzi didn't throw a racial slur at Zidane? Talking trash is one thing, but subjecting someone to racial slurs deserves a shot in chest like that. Dont forget now, Materazzi is one of the dirtiest players Italy has to offer. Go on youtube.com and type in "Materazzi" in the vids section. See how disgusting his physical game is. I'm more than sure he'd of stopped at nothing to get Zidane off that pitch. Whether it be physically or verbally.

Your retarded. What zidane did was right. I personally woulda knocked the mofo down and out if he talked some serious personal SHlT...which was the case..materrazzi is scum
Sportscenter said that Materrazzi called him a dirty terrorist and reports that Zidane said that Materrazzi said something very inexcusable to Zidane. Prolly about his immigration life, muslim heritage, his family that came from a poor area...something definetely that was personal. Materrazzi is just another rascist italian

Matterazzi and Zidane were tradeing insults the entire game, and Zidane decide to act like a child and hit matterazzi. there is no excuse for that.

Of course it was NOT OK for what Zidane has done! No one could take that. But you can't just watch the match and then decide it was ALL Zizou's fault.

Regardless of what precipitated the incident it was extremely unsportsmanlike and unethical and he probably cost his team the game. I'm sure his teammates aren't very happy with him either!

Well, I think it created bad 'karma' for the team after he did that....It was really stupid and he will live to regret that foolish act for a very long time...
