unfortunately human greed and also there were many who thought back in the 1700's and on that Africans were not as intelligent or like us. So they used them as slaves and workers. It is a sad thing this happened and that more people didnt protest it. But those who did were persecuted and often killed. John Brown is a perfect example. Abraham Lincoln another. Most people didnt condone it. It was mostly plantation owners and a few others who did and cause a great mark against humanity in doing so.And honestly many of causes of the problems in Africa stem from other africans. The militia and corrupt goverments and officals. It is all sad and unneccessary.

the ship question and the Africa's problems may possibly be two
separate questions...
the people with the bible in their hands in those days believed in their hearts that they were superior and had the right to have dominion over the Africans/that's the root of some of today's problems/do you really think the people of UK want democracy? what gives a country the right to say, "you people should be a monarchy, or democracy, or communists, or theocracy"
if Africa had been left alone to live in peace ever since then,
would they have any problems?

My guess to your first quesion would be because slaves are mentioned in the Bible, and so they thought it was perfectly alright to take people as slaves...
The cause of all the problems in Africa, in my opinion, is that the countries there were stripped of resources, both natural and human, without getting back much in the way of the benefits of "civilization"...

Upon first reading your question, I thought the same boat brought bibles there and took slaves back.
Then I figured you must mean the same people that introduced Christianity took slaves back, but could not remember hearing about missionary slave traders.
Finally I understood that you really meant that you were confused that white people brought the bible and took slaves. Ahhh. The answer is that not all white people are the same, just as all black people are not all the same.

Actually, material attempts to chrisitanize western and central Africa did not start until the trans-atlantic slave trade had almost died out. Places like Ethopia and parts of northern africa have had Chrisianity since the begining of Crhistianity.

That is a long and unanswerable question. The Bible really didn't help either way, did it? We have a lot of atoning to do.
