Depends on the fish - guppies are easy to tell. They have dark spots on both sides of their bodies near their anal opening. These are called gravid spots. Sometimes, you can even see the little eyes of the babies. Guppies are livebearers (they don't lay eggs, but rather, give birth to actual baby fish).
Mollies and platies are other common livebearers, but they're a little harder to tell when pregnant. For the most part, if you notice your fish getting fatter (and she's eating ok and having no problems swimming), then chances are, she's pregnant.
Livebearers drop (give birth) every 4-6 weeks, and can have multiple drops from a single sexual encounter (they store sperm for up to six months). They will also all eat their children. So it's best to separate the mothers from the babies, either by use of a breeder box/net, or using a separate tank.
Other tropical community fish are oviparous (they lay eggs). You can usually tell they're preparing to lay eggs when the females are starting to get fat and may be staking out territory.
Unfortunately, I have no experience with other kinds of fish (no cichlids or anything salt water for me), so you'll have to rely on other answers to get you by if you have those kind of fish.
Good luck!

properly, first what type of fish is it? it truly is significant, yet you'll see the female fish's abdomen about waiting to blow up and for guppies, you'll see 2 black dots behind her abdomen My chum's fish follows her pregnant fish and chases her lots because maximum fish devour the toddler fish or eggs so in case you be conscious any fish chasing her than in case you've a pregnant fish.

Depends on the fish...if its tropical community then look near where its genital area is, and if you can see a dark spot that looks like its inside...thats a yes for babies
If its a Cichlid, then keep an eye on its mouth because its what's called a mouth brooder. After it has the babies it will keep them in its mouth, and you'll be able to look into its mouth and see them

Fish don't actually get pregnant, they lay eggs that have to be fertilized, after being laid, by a male fish.

Depends on the breed.
I'd go by what 'Jake N' said, and if you need more information, contact an aquarium or pet shop.
