2(x+3) > 20
2x + 6 > 20 by distributive property
2x > 14 by transposing 6 to the other side
x > 7 by dividing both sides by 2

First, remove the parentheses by multiplying 2 times everything inside:

2(x + 3) > 20
2(x) + 2(3) > 20
2x + 6 > 20

Then subtract 6 from both sides:

2x + 6 - 6 > 20 - 6
2x > 14

Now divide both sides by the codeficient

2x/2 > 14/2
x > 7

So the solution is x is greater than 7

x : 2(x+3)>20

This problem has been made to look a bit difficult by using the ratio sign (:), though it is actually more familiar inequality problem, as it is equal to

x / 2(x+3) > 20 (read x/2(x+3) as x devided by 2(x+3))

now it's a more known inequality problem is not it? you have to find the range of x which satisfies this inequiality condition.
You can approach it by general algebra rules.
hope you can solve it now, but writing the full solution below in case you need.

x : 2(x+3)>20

or, x / 2(x+3) > 20

or, x > 40(x+3)

or, -39x > 120

or, -x > 120/39

Hence, x < -120/39 (Ans.)

(Please note in the last step that the inequality sign cahnges to opposite one for a multiplication or the division with a negative number)

properly you distribute the 8, so which you get 56x + 24 > 20 Then subtract the 24 from the two components: 56x > -4 Aaaand divide each little thing my fifty six: x > -4/fifty six which simplifies to x > -a million/14 Yeah...

You solve it like a normal algebra question, treating > as =

2(x+3) > 20
x+3 > 10
x > 7

2x + 6 > 20
- 6 > - 6
2x > 14
/2 > /2

= x > 7

I agree with rolladex "treating >< as = and after you found x you see x =7 or x>7 must be 7,1.........8. 2(8+3)>20 16+6>20.

2(x + 3) > 20

Distribute: 2x + 6 > 20
Isolate the variable by subtracting: 2x > 14
Divide both sides: x > 7

2(x + 3) > 20
divide both sides by two
(x + 3) > 10
subtract 3 from both sides
x > 7

(2x+3) > 20
2x + 6 > 20
2x > 14
7 > x You convert the sign because you are dividing it.
