I have no idea what the Italian guy said to Zidane. But i believe it must have been very nasty and insulting, that Zidane hit him in the risk of been given red card.
It is another dirty trick from Italy, it had did enough in this match, and i believe it had done a lot more in other matches, since they dare to play in the final match. What a shame! To get rid of player by insulting him! Only they can do that. And by playing tricks, they got the World Cup as they wish, while the team which is deserved got much disadvantaged and almost disqualified.
I cannot help from dispising them. Their way of playing is not the spirit of soccer at all!!

I heard that Zidane was making fun of the Italians for being an Axis Power with the Nazis during the 2nd World War. Then Matterazzi said, "Hey! At least you guys still hold the record for surrendering a country. What was it? 5 weeks?"

That's just what I heard.

One of the three things could have triggered zidane's header

1. His religion - thing like you allah is not going to help you win.
2. His fairy tale - forget about a fairy tale finish, we will beat you. the goal you scored earlier was not a penalty.
3. His family - something bad about his mother.

As much as it is Zidane's fault, it is also Materazzi's fault and he should be investigated about a possible ban.

No, I don't think it's something racial that Zidane heard. But whatever it is, it was so disappointing to see him react like that, especially when it's his final international game , and he's an old timer !!! *Sobs*

Anyhow, Mr Zidane, the world still salutes you for your beautiful football.

You will never know for sure...

Even if players talk to the press, they usually avoid these types of questions and stay cool by saying positive things about the event.

Only Materazzi knows what he said and Zizou what he heard but ... they will NEVER tell...

Feel free to speculate all you want
