an annulment means the marriage never happened - it is simply erased from the record books. There is usually a really really good reason for it that has to be approved.

A divorce is when you are married and basically want to break up - people can divorce for any reason. and basically comes in the form of a lawsuit.

Traditionally an annulment means that a valid marriage never took place. This could be a religious annulment or a civil annulment. Usually if it is civil it is something silly like you got married while drunk in Las Vegas and woke up married or maybe a shot gun wedding type of thing. Religious annulments can be obtained even if you were married for many years----they go before a board and you have witnesses testify on your behalf. The grounds usually are that one party was 'unable' to enter into a valid marriage for one reason or another---immaturity, abuse or who knows.....

Divorce is a civil dissolution of a marriage.

an annulmet is as if the contract of marriage never exsisted. If the marriage was never physically consumated then that is grounds for an anullment. In some religions you cannot get re married in their eyes unless the wedding is annulled. Divorce is simply the termination of the marriage contract.
