You can show more depth and action with widescreen advertisement and filming. It's more product to catch the viewer's attention.

Its a popular marketing ploy. Maybe they're preparing for when we all have widescreen TVs - more and more tv shows are also in widescreen format, as if our pictures weren't small enough.

because the TV people expect everyone to own a widescreen tv and if they dont they hope to persuade them to get them by showing everything in widescreen. makes people think thiere missing out on something
