It's not in the Bible. The whole 2012 end of the world scenario is based on the ancient Mayan Long Count Calendar which couldn't be further from the Bible. And furthermore the long count doesn't say that the world will END in 2012, it says the world will be REBORN. There's a huge difference.
Read "Maya Cosmogenesis 2012" by John Major Jenkins for a lot more on this subject. Read my 2012 article on my Jaguar Nights blog or my regular website for other information on that day.

It isn't in the bible. This particular doomsday scenario is brought about by the fact that the Mayan calander, created several thousand years ago and accurate to within a few day for all that time, suddenly ends December 23, 2012. But closer examination of their counting system reveals that it is simply when the calender rolls over to start again. It has happened several times before. The last time the Mayan calendar rolled over was on September 20, 1618. The time before that was on June 17, 1224 AD. The time before that was March 15, 830 AD. The time before that was December 11, 435 AD. So, nothing to worry about. My personal theory follows the biblical passage that says none will know the time of His return. I figure the one particular moment in time when absolutely no one is expecting it is when it will happen. Therefore, doomsayers help me sleep soundly at night.

The year 2012 doesn't appear directly in the Bible, so I have to wonder how your friends are concluding that the world will end then.
It's a bit funny that you should mention this: just today I came across a prediction of a "rapture" event, with a specific date! It was on a poster on a telephone pole near my hometown.
The poster read: "Are you ready? Jesus is coming on Oct. 28, 1992!"
That poster has been there for 14 years, and frankly, it's a bit embarrassing to see believers making ill-advised predictions about a subject that the Lord Jesus has warned us not to speculate about. "No man knows the day or the hour, but only my Father who is in heaven."

The Bible says that "No one knows the hour." And it implies that the angels don't even know, nor Jesus, though He could know since He's God.
I've studied the Bible for years and I've never seen a date given. I think someone is pulling your leg. I would also like to know where in the Bible you think you found that date for the end of the world.
The most important thing is that we're ready, whenever it might happen.

Nowhere in the Bible does it state that the world will end in 2012. I believe there is a Mayan legend that claims as such, but people have been proclaiming the end of the world since the beginning. Don't worry about things you can't control; there are more important things to worry about--like global warming, nuclear war, and the rising cost of healthcare.

The Bible never gave a time for the end of the world. Matthew wrote in Matthew 24 the words of Jesus regarding this.
33 Even so you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Most certainly I tell you, this generation will not pass away, until all these things are accomplished.
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
36 But no one knows of that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

the bible says jesus will return "in the hour you think not". so if everybody thinks the world will end on a certain date, then it wont. however, i have heard other religions to say the world will end in 2012. one video i watched in school was talkin about the aztecs or somethin like that, and they used a calendar that predicted several things that all came true. they predicted the end of the world to be in 2012, and i think the exact date was dec. 24. so i guess just dont buy any christmas presents that year lol.
