Would you go up to the Heavy Weight Champion of the World and punch him in the face? North Korea going to War with the US is about the same thing.

Kim Jong-il is posturing for the consumption of his subjects. He needs to be seen as the strong leader, standing up to the US. The country is in trouble because of the sanctions and his (mis)use of what little resources they do get from neighboring countries. (Their internal productivity doesn't cover the subsistence of their people because so much is diverted to the Military.)

These missile launches also confirm the priority and prestige of the Military in North Korea. (He's letting them play with their toys.)

Expect another week or two of rhetoric and then watch them back away from the precipice for the rest of this year.

the missiles had nothing to do with a war. The government is just playing a tactic on us because they want china as an ally. If North Korea would want to start a war, the missiles would have landed in the U.S already.

The U.S government is jumping to conclusions.

No.

Declaring war with the US would create just cause for the US and its allies to take military action against them. North Korea would not be able to fend off a pre-emptive strike which the US and its allies like South Korea and Japan would support.

No. North Korea does for China what Iran does for Russia: distract America like crazy, looking east and west for what would appear like trouble brewing, while China and Russia keep building. Need proof? China and Russia don't support serious sanctions against N. Korea nor Iran. And they pump serious cash into both countries, in an attempt to "appear" like they just want to try to stifle uprisings and such.
