Think of it as letters rather than numbers. Here is the first way of how to prove it.
Suppose we want to solve this equation for y. I won't use x because x and times will get mixed up.
2y + 2y x 10 = 44
simplify: 2y + 20y = 44 Thus 22y = 44 y = 2
Let's check the answer: y = 2
2(2) + 2(2) x 10 = 44
4 + 40 = 44... Thus, y = 2 is the correct solution to the equation.

Now suppose we simplified this equation this way:
Like 2 + 2 = 4 4 x 10 = 40

2y + 2y = 4y 4y x 10 = 40y
So, then we have it simplified to: 40y=44 y=44/40=11/10

Let check the possible solution of y = 11/10
2y + 2y x 10 = 44
2(11/10) + 2(11/10) x 10 = 44
22/10 + 22/10 x 10 = 44/10 x 10 = 44
Here is the trick. We did get 44. But in math, there is no single variable equation that has more than one solution. So y = 2 is the solution.
That shows that 2 + 2 x 10 = 22. Not 40.
Think the lord for parenthesis. Whenever there are no parenthesis, only add the first and multiply the other two.

the answer has follows. it can be 22 if you do 2x10=20 then add the 2 for 22 or you can be a ******* genus and put 40. how they go 40 they added 2+2=4 then x by 10=40

sorry to disagree everyone, but in the strictest sense as this sum is written without any enclosing brackets or other punctuationthe answer would be fourty however if the correct punctuation was there then yes it would indeed be 22.
But as asked it is 40 (2+2*10)
if the question had been asked either 2+ 2*10 or 2+(2*10) or (2*10)+2 then the answer is 22.

it's all down to how the question waas asked! Either answer can be taken as correct in the absence of the correct punctuation being used in the question.
sorry to disagree with the question setter but he needs to look at his question setting ability.

2+2x10=40
I don't give a toss about PEMDAS. I'm a human. I don't have the PEMDAS protocol programmed into me. I read the question.

The answer to the question, as presented, is 40. You're wrong.

22 is the answer to a different question. 2+(2x10)=22
