There is this great game where you tell a story that has product words in it and give those products to the mom to be. The two girls can help you pass those products to mom while you tell the story. Perhaps the husbands/boyfriends of all the ladies could take the dad to be out for a guys day out, perhaps to shoot pool, or play laser tag, or something. It wouldn't fix his problem but it might distract him for awhile.

I just threw a great shower (guest's did not leave until after 11pm because we were having a good time) and to include the new mother's children I gave them each a chore. I also got them each a special present just for them and gave it to them before the shower and then give them a small gift during for good measure. I think helping pick up wrapping paper is a great idea for the little one and passing out cookies is a good idea for the older child.
We played a really fun game, it is the Candy Bar game. You take candy bars and put them on a board, the candy is the prize for this game. You state a word and whoever shouts out what candy goes with that word wins.
Twins = Twix
Baby Girl = Baby Ruth
Engorgement = Mounds
College Tuition = 100 Grand
Naps = Take Five
Breast Milk = Milky Way
Conception = Skor
Lullaby = Symphony
Baby Boy = Heath
Triplets = 3 Musketeers
For another sweet idea I passed out note cards that I printed on card stock for words of advise. The new mom then picked her favorites for a prize (I gave little candles and mini lotions) for funniest, sweetest and most useful. The advise went with each letter of his name for example:
A = Always be patient
D = Don't yell
A = Alway's pray for him
M = Make the good memories last
Also, is not your job to "perk him up" that is her job. I am sure you mean well but I would stay away from that one. I know from the tone of your question you are being nice but this could be taken wrong and is inappropriate.
You get the idea :-) I hope you guys have a good time. I was scared to throw a shower because I had never been to one and I heard all of the horrible game horror stories but we had a blast. About 30 women came and it was so fun. Good luck!

Have the girls help prepare snacks.. (get a round of bread, toothpicks and meat and cheese of various types... then have the older one (10?) cut different shapes into the meat and cheese (flower, triangle, square) have the younger one (6) put them on toothpicks and stick them in the bread round.
Find other easy to make snacks they can be in charge of helping you put on plates....make them your helpers so they feel as if they are throwing Mom a shower and Baby a welcome to the family party. (This eases jealousy and prevents the need to buy presents for every child) Have girls give Mom coupons for chores she can "cash in" later so they are part of the giving.
Then have a small gift or treat for all 3 of you when the party is over. (We did such a good job with this party, we are going for ice cream to treat ourselves!) (and mom will be ready for a nap so it's an hour she can rest!)
As for MOM, don't forget to buy something for HER (not her as mom) such as lotion, tanning visit, lingerie for after (sexy stuff! she's STILL a woman).
As for Dad.... have every woman there write and/or talk about how important HER father was to her... or how much she wished her father had been important to her and let him see that being a father to a boy is Great, but being the whole world to a little girl is Important!
Remind him that girls play football, soccer and drums (just like boys).... Girls learn karate and run for office.(just like boys).. Girls are messy and dirty and mean (just like boys). But boys don't cry because Daddy is dissappointed in them. Boys get to old to sit in your lap and boys will say "love ya" like it's a gift but not "you are the world to me"...because they "get" that you need to hear it
Above all, understand that for all that truth...
It's perfectly OK to want a boy so long as you enjoy the girls you get...

Besides helping to decorate and assist in the games, the 2 girls could help prepare this. Not only will they have fun making this beforehand, but also feel special of all the compliments they will get from the guests...
WATERMELON BABY CARRIAGE:
Directions:
Almost any shape watermelon will work for this project.
Cut a thin slice from the bottom to provide a stable base.
Draw the outlines for the carriage as shown in the pattern image.
Use a sharp knife to cut out the section to be used for the handle. Cut all the way through the rind.
Use a decorating tool or knife to cut the fancy edges of the carriage.
Remove the top section of rind.
Hollow the carriage and attach the handle with toothpicks.
Attach wheels made from orange slices and hubcaps made from strawberries and kiwis.
Fill the carriage with approx. 4 cups of fruit salad.

THE CLOTHES PIN GAME
Give each guest a baby clothespin (PINK) when they arrive and explain the rules to them. If you say "BABY" and someone hears you, that person gets your clothespin. At the end of the shower, the person with the most clothespins is the WINNER of a small prize.
(at the end, the winner gives the mom to be all her clothespins)
THE DIRTY DIAPER GAME
Pin a diaper on each guest as they arrive.
When you are ready to play, have guest look inside their diapers.
The guest who receives the "Dirty Diaper" is the WINNER of a small prize.
Game Variation: If someone says the word "BABY" take their diaper! Whoever has the most diapers and/or the dirty diaper at the end is the WINNER of a small prize.
You can make these out of doll diapers that are sold in toy stores or real newborn baby diapers or tissue paper Smear melted tootsie rolls to mark the dirty diaper and close with minature safety pins or glue.
