The ocean water is colorless except for traces of sediment and debris. However, it reflects either the sky or the surrounding terrain. Scoop up a cup of sea water from long Island and look at it. Next time you are in the beautiful Caribbean, scoop up the water and look at it. When the water from New York settles, it will be pretty much the same. The beaches of the Caribbean, especially in Barbuda with 17 and 26 miles of pink and white sand beaches are, for the most, part bereft of noticeable pollutants. The skies look deep blue as opposed to the grey skies of New York. The ocean in New York reflects the smog in the atmosphere.
