I can't believe how much money The Passion made and how much Christian support and awards it got. It was the idea of Mel Gibson while he was high on drugs!! Granted, it didn't stray from the bible, but come on! I thought it was just a long torture flick - just like Reservoir Dogs only with JC instead of a Mob guy. Plus we all knew what was going to happen. I think it was the most overrated film ever, what do you think?

EXACTLY!! Too much torture.

And the amount of money it made was crazy. They just took a story from the bible and then made hundreds of millions.

Now everyone is going to stop being creative and start making moves based on old stories. Stuff from the bible, old fairy tales, and bio's on people's lives.

I also think that Johny Cash Walk The Line was overrated. If a movie isn't really creative, it shouldn't win all those awards - It's just like making another Robin Hood or Peter Pan Movie.

You couldn't be more wrong. The Passion was not overrated. There has been many films about the life of Jesus, but none of them were ever as authentic and as impacting as the passion. Yes the film was violent, that's what makes it so real. Mel Gibson clearly said he was making a film about the final hours in the life of Christ, not a film about the entire life of Christ. The Bible is one of the most violent (if not the most vilent) book that you will ever read. Don't believe me? just read the story of Samson, John the Baptist, Daniel, Paul, Moses, and you'll know what I'm talking about. Those final hours in the life of Christ were probably worst than what's shown on The Passion of the Christ, The Bible clearly states how tormenting those final hours were. Again read your Bible and watch this movie again with an open mind and you'll realize how authentic it really is.

i dont think it was overrated, mel gibson didnt even know he was going to make that much money, he just made the movie to show how much jesus sacrificed for us, yah the movie was more directed to the christian community which is the largest in u.s, so ofcourse it would have made so much money.. usually jesus movies only shows a few blood here and there but seriously back then they tortured the criminals to almost death before they made them carry the cross ( i read it on ancient rome book) .. i can say that was the most emotional movie ive ever seen, It made me cry and i saw grown huge guys cryin in the movie theatre, he truly deserved more awards..

i think it was too much bloody movie.
As for me I didn't understand what was the "message" of that movie. I don't understand even why people say Jesus suffered so much - there were thousands of martyrs who died in the same way( but this is other story).
Back to movie: brutal and terrible. All characters looked like savages. On the other hand you can say that the people on that age were kind of brutal and the movie was realistic. It looks like a documentary, especially that the language was Aramaic.
What I want to say is that any religious message, or moral one, is not depicted in this way. At least for me didn't work. What a difference to Zeffirelli movie! The question is" Is this kind of movie for nowadays audience?"
I don't really think it is, it had box-office success but that movie doesn't have anything to say.

It was not overrated by any means it was the truset dipiction of the sacrifice that jesus's made for us. The torture was the way it would have beed for a persecuted heratic in the 1st century.
Would you have like it better if they smacked him with a loufa, and sat in the corner? We probably have a sadistic culture today.
It conveyed through the betraying of his prophets, the questioning of his own faith in his father, and the never ending blood lust of the zealous jewish rabbi's. Did not hinder his never ending passion for his faith, and people. It taught me personally that a body can be broke but a spirit is eternal!

I admit there was a lot of hype around it, plus it was released on the Easter weekend, so it was expected to make a lot of money.

It was a well made film (the small bits I saw, anyway) and I thought it was sort of accurate.

I wouldn't say it was highly overrated - I haven't really even heard many reviews on it!

The movie depicted what Jesus endured for all people. Whether you accept him as your savior OR want to burn in Hell is your decision.

I have no problem with the violence because that's what really happened to him. Kudos to Mel Gibson.

Yeh, it was, violence pushed it overboard too i think. I mean, what type of sick person wants to see someone beatin senseless for 2 hours :/

Way to much blood gore, had it not been about Jesus, christians probably wouldv'e boycotted it or protested it in someway.

It was a gorefest. It wasn't a movie that had a story to it. It was 2 hours of blood. It was gratuitous and unnecessary. Implied violence can be just as effective as violence that's displayed. I think he was just going for shock value.
