You are paying for the food, service, location, and the price also has to do with demand. Most food offered is of higher quality or is harder to obtain. The servers and staff are paid better because they are expected to give high quality service . The location and furnishing may cost more so the restaurant can look better. If demand is high for the restaurant they may be able to raise prices.

Generally gorumet restaurants are more expensive for several reasons but the biggest one is ingredients. The more you pay for a plate of food, the better the ingredients used are generally. A good example of this is truffles. They are extremely expensive and sold at gourmet restaurants. Essentially, you are paying more for a btter looking, better tasting plate of food with higher quality ingredients. You are also paying the salaries of well trained and experienced chefs and staff when you order there as well....

Because there are so many dumbasses that have too much money wanting to drop a name of where they went last night because they dont have a life or are too lazy to cook their own food. Because people always will pay more for a name than actual quality. Because people on the whole are very gullible.
