I mean seriously, he caused the French team to lose the finals; he's like the best in his team.. but nooo he HAD to get angry and headbutt that guy, and get a freaking redcard! I mean dude, its the World Cup FINALS, the man really needs to learn how to control his tempermental problems.

First of all, you can't blame the loss solely on him. I know that his leadership role was a big part of the team's success, but one man does not make a team.

Like the rest of the world, I was totally shocked by his actions in the final, but I can't bring myself to hate the man for one moment of rash behaviour. One mistake doesn't erase an entire career of excellence. We've all made mistakes in life. Your true character is summed up by weighing the good you've done against the bad. Zidane will always be known as one of the best players to ever play the game.

I am really curious to hear his explanation for his actions. My personal feeling is that he acted out in response the combination of the pain of his freshly (re)injured shoulder, frustration, pressure, and Materazzi's instigating. Clearly this is in no way excusable, but it is understandable.

He is known for his passion, perfection and precision - these qualites can easily lead to frustration when events aren't going the way you want them to.

Matterazzi has a great mouth to insult. So I don't blame Zidane at all. It was not his fault that the French lost, it was the second penalty shot made by France that missed by like an inch by hitting the bar, which caused France to loose.

It was a good game. I was all for Italia, except for that Marco Materazzi guy, he's just an all around jackass.

(Marco Materazzi- the guy who got head-butted by Zidane.)

First of all , Zidane didn't cause the France to lose , without him , France wouldn't come this far . So please don't take this lone incident to blame it all on him , it's not fair . Secondly, France still have to score in 2nd Extra Time or beat Italy in PKs to win , so it's a toss up .

I don't hate him , but I am not really a fan of him . Everyone in the World thinks of him so highly, but everyone have overlooked that fact that Zidane hasn't been the same since Deschamp retired . Zidane is a great attacking midfield, but Deschamp was a back-bone of the French team.

--------

To Kat .

That missed PK was a make-cup uncalled for the first one , cause the first PK wasn't a PK .

If I was Zidane, I would have head butted Materazzi back to Italy.

I stand by Zidane. It was the ref who missed the penalty that occured earlier in the game and failed to call it, which would have surely resulted in 2-1 for France.

At this point, the winning and losing of the cup is not important. There must be repremand agianst Materazzi for his racism.

Fact of the matter is...you don't headbutt anyone on the field, especially in that manner, understandable if your going for a headball or it's inadvertant. What a disgrace to France...there were many diplomats and country officials sitting in the stands...terrible. Definitely not tolerated, poor sportsmanship...Zidane and Rooney can hang out together now and bang each other in the ***.

I am glad France lost, but I feel sorry for Zidane. It was a monumental mistake he made in one of the biggest games he was to play in and the last big game of his career. To end with a red card. Now he will regret his last act on the pitch for the rest of his life.

If only he had just yelled at the guy and pushed him a little, he could have had a much different ending to his career. It's a shame for him, but Italy deserved to win because of Zidane's indiscretion.

If anyone hates Zidane after that dispute, you shouldn't be watching this sport. Zidane is the main reason France made it to the Final, and only reason they won the Cup in 98'. He is a legend, what he did was hot-headed, but that is very unlike him. Materazzi for Man-of-the-Match for provoking Zizou.

I'm sure all of those things flashed through his mind in the elasped time between what the Italian said and the butt itself. Come on now. You're in the heat of the moment in the biggest athletic event of your life... things happen.

He didn't lose the World Cup for France, by the way. Who knows what would have happened differently if the butt never happened, or if the officials wouldn't have seen it (away from the play and all), et cetera?

i kinda wanted france to lose but my cousin was watching with me and he sed tht the dude on italy's team probably sed something bout him or his family or something so thts y he did it. he's like an animal. i was totally happy tht they lost but if someone says something to you dont you think you should say something back instead of doing something stupid that you know can get you out of the game espicially in the WORLD CUP FINALS!. it really sucks the way he ended his career. he announced tht hes gonna retire after the world cup and what do you kno he leaves his career with a redcard.

I think there is no reason to hates and blame one person. See again the match and look what that materazzi done to zidane until made him angry...maybe he says something about racial slur and made zidane lost his temper and headbutt materazzi...
