Why do the F1 fans put down NASCAR and vice-versa so much? They are both fast and dangerous motorsports. It is hard to compare them outside of that though. So, let's hear what both sides have to say about the other sport.

There just different forms of racing, plain and simple. F1 is an elitist form of racing. They spend extreme amounts of money on technology, its the technology that most people don't understand. My opinion is that F1 is more about the car. Nascar is great because of the people (drivers, crew, owners). And I believe its more about the driver.

Speaking for myself I am a Nascar fan,but I am a motor sports fan mostly the four wheel kind.Nascar,F1, Indy, champ cars GT cars I like em all.In any of the above mentioned levels you are going to have very talented, highly skilled drivers. The technology used in all these series is awesome, probably highest in F1 or Indy.I have nothing but respect in general for all these drivers,I don't know too much about the other series but Nascar has some you love to hate, kinda like Howard Cosell was for Monday Night Football. But anybody who straps themselves into a race car and rides around a track at speeds up to two hundred mph, sometimes inches apart has really got #1 my respect and #2 my envy.I've seen a few come from the open wheel cars and do pretty darn good (Tony Stewart.Jeff Gordon) in Nascar.I cant remember a Nascar driver who went in the other direction there may be some I'm not aware of.It will be interesting to see how Pablo Montoya will fare in the bump and grind world that is Nascar.Montoya will have to adjust a little, well maybe a lot but i think he will handle it ok he would have a better chance with a different team Ganassi hasn't exactly been lighting up the Nascar circuit not nearly as much success as his open wheel teams have had.I don't and wouldn't put down the other series. What I really hate is all these Nascar bashers answering motor sports questions!!Why don't they go answer topics they actually know something about.

Although I'm an avid F1 fan I don't put down NASCAR. I have on some occasions tried to watch it with an open mind. Part of my fascination with F1 is the technical side of it. And to be quite honest NASCAR just falls short. NASCAR is mostly watched by an American audience whilst F1 has a wider and broader reach.

swordsman007 what does being a redneck have to do with watching NASCAR? Just because you are a redneck does not make you and stupider. I have met some pretty dumb yankees. And it's all rednecks watching nascar because nascar started down here! The first real race was in Daytona! I can't help it if you yankees think that you are better than other ppl but that's your problem. So run off to your job in the 100 story building where no one knows your name or really cares about you and I will get back to weeding out my garden.

and to victorrad_n1:
All the NASCAR tracks are not just ovals. Look at Watkins Glen, Treasure Island, Darlington, or Albequerque. None of them are ovals. And there are plenty more, I just don't feel like listing them all right now.

Yall sorry my answer is so long.
87% Redneck and proud.

If it is about tecnology - F1 is miles ahead of Indy, Nascar or Champcars.

I think driver skill is most required in Rallying. The terrain is unpredictable and new, not like going arond the same circuit 30 or 100 times. You never know what's at the next corner - a rock, cow or a spectator! Maybe rallying is not that popular because you can't have 50000 spectators seated in a stadium watching the race.
And WRC cars are the closest to real world cars. When I am driving my Lancer. I can atleast imagine I am driving the Evo cousin. Though I don't have the faintest idea what it's like to pilot a Mclaren.

If balls are concerned, Motogp guys have big ones. You don't have a steel cage or frame protecting you from ramming into a wall at 200 mph. Just you fireproof overalls.

Sorry, Isle of Man guys have bigger balls.

I am a Formula 1 fan and I admit that I put down Nascar, but it's because I tried to watch Nascar races and I couldn't watch more than a few seconds up to one lap. Because oval courses don't quite test a pilot and his car to their limits.
Plus, nascar cars are a lot more low-tech than open-wheel cars. That's one of the most exciting sides of F1: the cars' technology.

NASCAR would be cool if the fans and drivers weren't rednecks. Open wheel racing requires more skill and physical endurance. Look how fat Tony Stewart is and he still wins races. That could never happen in IRL, ChampCar, or F1. I think it's funny how the foreign drivers of the open wheel series can speak better English than NASCAR drivers.

I'm an open-wheel, open-cockpit racing fan (that includes F1) and I don't `put down' NASCAR. True, I've made the odd joke about banjo pickin in the background when Dale Earhnardt Jr is talking, but that's just good-natured fun, nothing really derogatory.
Do I get the 10 points for this answer? :-)

No it does not.F1 not in any respect took off in united statesa. the way stockcars and indy or sprint autos.also with the start o f drag racing the F1 in simple terms did not get an complete foot carry.i actually drove a "formula V" or F5 which turned right into a lighter weight formula form vehicle that had a VW type engine. So interior the middle of stockcars I drove a formula vehicle(this type diminished put in the late 70's. yet there are good drivers in each and each and every of the racing international and some can race all kinds and that is tremendous and as for Gurney certain he did win as did Mark Donaho,A.J. Foyt, and Mario Andretti. And Yoy can see the position Bobby and Donie Allison,Cale Yarbrough all ran Indy,so this type range is tremendous for the interest. nicely worded question.
