In it's most simplistic form digital data consist of zeros and ones and combinations of those digits. Movies, music, and other formally analog forms of analog material of course have various and certain structures to represent the analog material. Digital is just a way of saying that the material being represented is independent of amplitude or frequency variations or changes. The volume amplitude and frequency changes are still represented in the music and color info etc in movies but it's done so using 0's and 1's and the way they are structured together. The info is also written on the disk with a laser beam. The Disk is called digital because it has the info in digital format.
