They're waiting for the price of copper to go down or to find a new material to make the penny out of.
As for selling copper pennies you would need 153 pre-1982 pennies to sell as a pound of copper at $3.75. That is 2.5 cent for each penny.
But I don't no any recycling place that will do that.

I'm guessing that is why they are trying to stop the production of the coin. It makes me sad to think of, but in about 50 years, the penny might be a collector's item. I really just like the penny because then cars will be 1499.99 instead of 1500 dollars. The same with candy bars and the whole 99 cent thing.

Well its not been made of copper in a long time. It's just made of some alloys. Unless you have some old pennies, you not gonna make a profit by melting the majority of pennies that you have.

How stupid can "they" be. This happens in every currency around the world at some point. There is nothing you can still buy for 1 cent. Used to be bazooka bubble gum but now that's gone so I say get rid of the penny...

THere isn't much copper in pennies. Mostly zinc. Copper plated.
If you want hot, sweaty work that doesn't pay much, get a job on a farm.
