I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons as a kid, though I've seen a few episodes that were major funny. I know that writers tend to run out of ideas after a while. Do you recommend the earlier seasons as opposed to the latter ones? I bought the season 7 disc set, a whopping $40.00 for it, but it isn't that funny so far. It's more about morals, and less about punchlines. I've played my Family Guy DVDs to death, and am looking for a new funny... Which is the best? I will certainly not buy all of the sets, at $40.00 each. Yikes...

Season 1 was understandably flawed due to the experimentation process of getting the character's voices right and developing the format.

Seasons 2-3 delivered a few undeniable gems.

Season 4 is where the golden age started i.e. the greatest season of the greatest TV comedy genre of it's kind, it contains the plain ol' best episode ever (''Last Exit to Springfield''). Anyway you slice it, all the episodes here are just darn LOOOOOOOOOOOOL funny. This season is the one that us 'Simpson Geeks' were waiting for, and luckily got.

Season 4 is without a doubt 'The peak season of a TV triumph'.
