Okay. I've been wondering for some time now. U say rap isn't music but when u say that, does that include hip hop and r&b? or just rap? Becuz r&b and rap are soo different. I've heard some people say "I don't listen to black people music" and i find that very strange, becuz rap isn't for black people, its for people who like rap. Cuz nowadays u got white rappers and all that. My skool there's white boys more thugged out than I am. And I dont think this stuff goes by race, I think it goes by style and flavor and music interest. So I dont think its fair to categorize it as "black people" music and offend it. Like at my skool, all my white teachers, anytime the morning announcements come on with "black people" music, they turn the television off but leave the other stuff. I dont think its fair, maybe they're afraid of the explicit lyrics and stuff, but come on its a SCHOOL! Like they would play the bad stuff. But anyways what is it that u people dont like? srry i know this is long. lol

What you wrote is true! I am a huge R&B & Rap fan. There are some Nasty rap songs nowadays...but, I think the rest is great. I love Tupac. He's the greatest rapper ever and he has some songs everyone should listen to!
So basically, if you don't like Rap (this goes to everyone) don't ask questions about it and don't complain about it. No one is forcing you to listen to it!

No I hate rap..The stuff today that is classified as R&B has no rhythm or blues or soul to it. It all sounds the same and it sucks! You want R&B? Listen to 60's and 70's black groups. That was music. The 50's doo-wop groups, black or white, was music. The 50's and 60's and 70's we had rock & roll. We have noise now, not music. At least not on the urban youth stations! Expand your mind and go back to the days when music meant something and listen. Many young people have been surprised that they really liked alot of the old stuff. What do you think, most of these rap and r&b songs today are taking music from the 60's, 70's and 80's and using it in their backgrounds or remaking the song with different lyrics. You young people think its all original, and most of it isn't!!!

I do not like rap or hip hop because some of it talks about women and men in a very negitive light ( like all women are ho's etc)

I think we all can appreciate music if it has something a little less violent and against people! So what i am saying it is not a black or white issue it is whatever u want to listen too. There are some heavy metal bands that are just as violent and have NOTHING good to say and i don't listen to that either!

I do not appreciate Mainstream Rap. I do sometimes listen to Hip Hop and Trip-Hop, mostly by Nujabes and UNKLE and some underground stuff. However, what I hear on the radio, television, and every other glimpse I've had of Mainstream Rap has completely turned me off to many artists. I hear an incredible lack of depth in the music, which is typically compirsed of recycled beats and absolutely minimal harmonic or melodic development, often recycled as well. And I cannot relate to the lyrics that I've heard either, which I often find to be, quite simply, shoddy and generally poor poetry. I consider 50 Cent's "Candy Shop" an affront to songwriting - it rhymes same words, and is so blatant and obvious in its attempts to be sly that it comes off as ridiculous and outright offensive.

Since I have not been exposed to all that Rap has to offer, I am basing my judgements off of a limited selection of artists. However, all of Mainstream Rap that I've heard falls into the same pattern of completely shoddy, shallow garbage. I can only listen to songs about "pimps", "hos" and "thug life" so many times - it's a culture that I am not a part of, and am alienated by. Underground Rap and Hip Hop - these people, on the other hand, I've found apply a lot more brains to their songs and subject matter, which appeals to me intellectually, as well as applying more effort to the musical aspect of the songwriting, which appeals to me aesthetically.

I hate rap, hip hop and all that crap. It just sucks. I don't think i'ts music at all it's just some idiot with bad teeth telling us what a player or how rich he is With girls dancing around him. Rap is a shame to true music like The Beatles.

I personally dislike rap/r&b/hip-hop music. I dislike the repetetiveness and often (but not always) disgusting and crude lyrics. However, there are a few songs that I like. I just dislike the genre in general. I also don't like much country music, but that's another topic!

I think your teachers are racist or they don't want kids to go around causing mayhem because of what the kids are listening to.Most people who hate rap and hip hop aren't being racised they hate it because of what the rappers are saying like how they have cars, money, and huge houses. It seems like they're trying to get people jealous which makes them pathetic.
