I'm scared to be alone, especially at night. I half to be dead tired before I can turn out the light, and I never turn off the tv (I use the sleep timer.) If my boyfriend gets tired and we hang up before I'm tired enough to sleep, I have a lot of trouble relaxing by myself. I can't hear about scary movies, see previews for them or anything! I'm a big chicken! How can I relax?!

You need to know what you are scared of, if even a preview of a movie gets you scared, something else must be going on..
Try thinking of nice places, or even praying.. are you religious at all? dont put yourself in uncomfortable places or situations.. but at some point you are going to have to face your fears and live your life

There is nothing wrong with you and you might just have peeping tom problems. Use light and sound to comfort you and be sure about the doors and windows. If it was an attacker it would be all over by now. Avoid the scary movies anymore. The reality of movie making is scaring all of us. Some refuse to admit it and some forget too easily anyhow. Get mace and take Tae Kwan Doe lessons or hire a body guard. You might consider witness protection program like in the movies. Oh gee did I say that?

all i did to get over it was just turn off the lights one day and satyed in the dark room as long as i could. i did that untill i eventualy stoped being afraid of a dark room now i cant sleep with light in there cause the shadows the lights make freak me out
and if that doesnt work u can just smoke a big fattie and that would relax u in no time

I have the same problem. When I'm the last person to go to sleep (which is almost every night), I get a little freaked out. I try to fall asleep and start thinking "What if someone breaks in".."What if.." and can never get myself to fall asleep. What I do is try and read something peaceful, not scary, and keep reading until I get tired. Then it's bed time. I like to keep the TV on as well. I put in one of my many movies and it's soothing to go to bed to.

You have to figure out what it is you are scared of? is it everything? ru phobic?doesn't sound like it? Are you scared of the boogieman?
Seems to me to be just a part of your personality which you have grown used to amplifying for some reason or another. Probably a need for attention.I think a good start if you are serious about becoming more fearless would be to take up rock climbing(which I believe should be taught in all pre-schools across the world). You could also start doing more things by yourself in unfamiliar places. Go on a few hour nature hike by yourself and work up from there.

dont take things so seriously.... i think you need to relax first. Just because there is some silly story about a guy getting killed by an axe murderer, doesnt mean you'll get killed. take everything with a grain of salt and not care about what people say.
Tips on getting tired... go exercise during the day. Join a gym, go running... something that'll make ya super tired.

When I was a little girl, my father used to tell me to think about Mickey Mouse. You don't have to think about MM, but you can think some pleasant thoughts. As for watching scarey movies, I never did. I live alone and I have a dog, but I don't like thinking about anything scarey. No one has ever thought of me as a social outcast, either. So, remember that it is "mind over matter," and think pleasant thoughts. You can watch all kinds of movies that leave you with pleasant thoughts, such as "A Walk In The Clouds." Take care.

Maybe you can try self-hypnosis to deal with why you are scared of things like this? Self-hypnosis can be good for a lot of reasons, including helping you to relax before bedtime, and also figuring out why you are so scared of irrational things. There are a lot of great books on the subject that you might find helpful. Good luck!

When you lay down to go to sleep, make up a story. Maybe a fantasy or something you'd love to do someday. Run through the story in your mind, like a movie. And don't stray from the story until you fall asleep.
