This question was posted awhile ago. The lack of answers is a damning indictment of American hypocrisy.

Are those Americans who supported the IRA proud of their actions? Were they aware that the monies sent were used to build bombs that killed civillians? Did your opinion change after terrorist attacks in the US.

Before you answer - I know there were crimes committed by both sides in this conflict. The question is about a change of perception once your country becomes the victim.

Here's my opinion. If you finacially supported the IRA you should be extradited and prosecuted to the full extent of the law in the UK. A bit harsh you may think. Remember you did facilitate murder. This is a crime in your country too - you only have to look in your own backyard to see those detained on the same grounds - without a trial.

Terrorists are terrorists no matter what their religion, race or political ideology.

Your thoughts please.

I dare to answer this question. However, I am not an American and I have never knowingly sent money to any terrorist organization. Furthermore, I never would. I do not agree with terrorism, although generally it is a response to some legitimate hurt and wrongdoing. The action taken by the terrorists is not justified. The innocent are the victims, and the perpetrators of the situation that provoked them are left to continue their malice and may not really even care.

I agree that one's perception of terrorism would change once one had become a victim of it in some way. It is interesting to note that the IRA renounced its armed weapons, and the violence in Northern Ireland slowed down, since the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York. However, some could argue, sardonically, that they have only renounced their ARMED weapons, and could pick up their chemicals at any time and go Swiss (presumably meaning clean, insidious, invisible and sneaky). It is another angle to look at. Are contaminated blood and imposed ingestion of chemicals through drugs and pollution really forms of similar behaviour?

Great question.

I know of the IRA but mostly from well movies school and history. No I didn't support them, but I guess that isn't the point, would I have had I been able? In the end I very well may have. I am of the mind that If I have two men to choose from I can go with the biggest and strongest or I can go for the one that might have a more just cause, no matter if it is a small amount of more. I would have sided with the one that could have ended it more swiftly. That would have been neither of them. I guess in the end it is as you say terrorists are terrorists. the only way to defeat terrorism is through extinction or stop being afraid.

Brut force from any nation against another is a travesty to peace. But the lack of effort to resolve any conflict between neighbors by any human being is a crime against humanity.

All terrorists and there funders should be prosecuted. I understand that people are wronged, but if I exacted vengence everytime I was wronged, there would be a string of dead people and I would be in prison. But to go and kill their neighbors or brothers and sisters is even more stupid. You notice that the majority of the terrorists and suicide bombers don't attack the perpetrators of their grief but instead attack innocent civilians who have nothing to do with there governments policies. They don't attack soldiers, or tanks, or parliments. No, they blow up trains, sub-ways,buses, non-government buildings. Not always but most of the time. It is innocent people in these places, all trying to do the same thing as everyone...scratch out a living, feed their family, grow old and die. What's worse is some of the terrorist factions target groups of children!! I'm curious how they can justify this with logic. A very unfortunate fact of war is people die, sometimes non-military personel and children are killed, but it is rare they are targeted. All terrorist that target innocent civilians and children should be drug out into the street and shot like the cowardly whelps they are. As for the people who fund them, they should be simarily shot as well. If you want to be a terrorist target the people and institutions that have harmed you, not people who have nothing to do with it.

So, what you are saying is if I give money to an organization that fights for what they think is right, then I supported terrorism?
I guess that is a good reason to not pay taxes.
Seriously, i never give money to anybody, not even a bum on the street.
I say let the terrorist kill each other, and you folks with money, keep paying for it.

Correct all terrorism is wrong. Setting bombs to kill anyone is wrong. Demonstrating and peaceful assembly is right.
Is it Catholic vrs. Prodestant or is it Ireland wanting freedom from GreatBritton? Shouldn't the UN get involved?

There is no such thing as a terrorist, there are just people with guns and ideals for which they kill. There is no right or wrong in war, there is only dead or alive.
