A lot of rap does, but not all. I don't think the lyrics about how some women have big butts or thongs are all that bad because it's just a flamboyant way to admire the female figure. What is degrading are the lyrics about beating women, calling them bitches and hos, and just general disrespect towards women. These lyrics make women seem worthless, and it's not a state of mind you want little boys in your family growing up to think is cool or okay to think.

We need to be careful about making blanket judgment statements here. It is not true to say that all rap music, as a genre, is demeaning to women. There are some artists whose lyrics would be termed "insensitive" and "disrespectful" to women - but that is true across genres, not just in the case of rap. What may be true, and there may exist a study on this somewhere, is that a higher percentage of rap songs as compared to songs from other genres tend to use disparraging language when referring to females. If this is the case (and I suspect it may be), then it would be correct to say that rap music is more degrading to women than any other genre of music.

Yes, I think that the majority of rap songs do degrade women. Some of them actually encourage violence toward women. I've been amazed at the number of rap songs done by women still demoralizes women into sex slaves of men. I wish that middle class white guys would quit buying rap albums.

It degrades women, culture, society, mores, values, and effective means of communication. Among other things. This is of course a sweeping generality. I'm sure there is some rap / urban / hip-hop that has some redeeming and honorable qualities but since KRS-One is no longer a popular artist I find it difficult to care about this genre much at all.

Music is music, which is a way for people to express themselves, and all throughout time, songs have been written about everyone and everything, some not too nice, its just how people look at it and associate with it, too bad these days, theres all these mumbling idiots that are just in it for the money and the "fame"... but to answer your question, yes and no, cause it most songs cant go a line without the b word, but they also focus on other races, their same race, the n word, the b word, the p word and so on and so forth

only certain songs, not all of them, it is just hard to understand what they are saying since they talk so fast. but that also shows how much respect they have for the female persuasion.
i am sure there are some rap songs out there that degrade guys too. i can't understand what they are saying. and you have to get passed all the cussing to find out what is being said.
