I am trying to keep the programs that are using up my ram that i don't always use and when i start up my pc programs that i dont often use start up. I think i can do that with the system configeration. if i select selective programs in general and then unclick the programms i dont want started in startup will this free up ram and make my pc quicker and then can i open and close the programms only when i need to use them. i installed freeram xp pro 1.52 and it seems to be freeing a lot of my ram up. i am a bit worried i unclick something i need any advice on this or any other tips to free my ram up

i think you are talking about all the things that appear by the clock...like real player and quicktime and printer utilities and things like that.

the easiest way to get rid of them and stop other things changing your start-up is to delete them from the run section of the registry..(be careful). and then install adaware from lavasoft and set "adwatch" to monitor changes to startup files.

i use it all the time and if i want something to be available at startup then i allow it. if not then i block it.

lmao using this i found that when i check my hotmail account the front page of my mailbox tries 4 (yes four) times to add messenger to my startup list.....can you guess that i dont like messenger..haha

Yes, this will free up some more memory on startup

But you have to be aware that in freeing up memory from other apps, the system will then use this free memory for the other apps and system startup routines.

Also, if you do disable some startup apps, do it one at a time. It makes it easier to tell which ones you don't need on startup.

yeah un check the ones you don't need loaded at startup

after you reload the pc, it will ask you if you want to keep the setup or revert back.

do it slowly if you are not sure, but if you cause a problem just go back into and click the progam back on
