I agree with you, right now I'am having that problem with my boyfriend or whatever you wanna call him. I honestly can say I try my best to be honest at the time given not a week later. I think being honest and not beating around the bush shows that you have respect for the person. When we can't communicate it takes away our authenticity. It just shows that you will always be hiding something.

Often people fear being ridiculed for what they think, due to the complexities of the mind other reasons are often in play. Often opening up to people and exposing that part of you that can easily be hurt is the hardest, but also there are a lot of times when people tend to hide the truth even from themselves.
People are complex and most times they are not meaning to be disrespectful to you, they just need their own time to work through issues.

I always wish that I were a kid again when I have to tell someone something unpleasant. Why? Because kids have the advantage of innocence to allow them to get away with doing this. They say exactly what is on their minds and have no fear of repercussion.
On the other hand as an adult when you say straight out what you want to say, people look at you as though you're out of your mind or just simply rude. I personally don't think that it's rude to tell people exactly what you think, but somehow as adults it just doesn't come across as being the right thing to do. You're labelled when you do that. Then there are those who just hate confrontation, and with good reason.

Oh it could be a number of things.
1) Fear that the person will be offended.
2) Afraid of the response they would get.
3) Fear of rejection.
4) Plain shyness.
I use three rules when raising issues with anyone.
Rule # 1 Is it the truth?
Rule # 2 Is it fair to everyone concerned?
Rule # 3 Is it necessary?

Because it is in human nature. Naturally, people want to feel accepted, and in turn, have their ideas liked by others. Most of the time, when people don't know how their answer will play out with others, they answer in a very general manner, and when they get approval, will actually say what is on their mind.

Because they fear judgement,degradation.
Due to this Rogers psychotherapy is without much judging the client. Instead accepting.
