Please Zidane is not to blame at all. It was one of the other French players who made a bad shot on their second penalty shot. Which caused them to lose.

Not sure they lost because of it. It certainly lowered their spirits, though. But they kept playing and even attacked a little.

France had more ball possession and attacked more, especially during the second half of the game. But soccer isn't all about that. Many people don't like Italy's defensive style because they think that an offensive minded team is more exciting to watch. May be. But not being scored against is exactly as important as scoring is. So, Italy's style is effective, as long as they can score too (which they did) and they kept defending even when Zidane was gone.

France lost because they missed a PK.

Zidane's act was foolish, I agree with you. More than that, it was totally unprofessional. His team needed him for the PK's and he let them down.

The French start to cry when they do not get their way. France lost because Italy is Superior!! Zidane was just the icing on the cake. So, Mange La Merde
Viva Italia!!

I don't know if they lost all because zidane but it definitely was a foolish selfish act on his part. France could have used him when it came to penalty kicks

Materazzi is a (famously) nasty player... I wonder what he said to Zidane, who's got a dark side to him, but not like this crazy headbutt would suggest. Still, it was unprofessional of Zidane to react like that, especially bec France was the better side for most of the game (not the 1st half, but from the 2nd half through extra-time). I don't think Italy, on the whole tournament, showed that they deserved to be world champions, even though they did win...

I don't know that France would have won with Zidane, but it was without a doubt a lowpoint in an otherwise fabled career. Completely unnecessary and out of character, he's not a hothead like Rooney.

Yes, it was a disgrace. How can the top player in the world let down his team like that? Those of you who played sports know that the other team says things to get under your skin...and of course you return the words, just a tactic to get the player off their game. It's very common in all sports but the true professional keeps his cool. Fo Zidane it's a real shame to end your career like that.

I don't think they lost it because of Zidane. They were playing for him after he was off.
