what do you think when you hear somebody talk coutryfied? do you think they're dumb hicks?

i have heard many intellegent people critizied because of their southern accent...just wondering?

I MYSELF TALK LIKE A HICK EVERYDAY CAUSE I AM ONE I SAY HOWDY YALL I EAT GRITS I WORK IN A GARDEN TO RAISE MY OWN VEGTABLES AND MARRIED A RED NECK AND AM PROUD TO SAY THAT IN THE SUMMER TIME YES I DO GO WITH OUT SHOES AND I SWIM DOWN AT THE CREEK MY LIFE MAY NOT BE PERFECT TO SOME BUT TO ME ITS JUST JIM DANDY AND FOR ALL WHO LIVE IN THE BIG CITIES WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT YALL FELT SAFE LEAVING YOUR DOOR UNLOCKED AT NIGHT OR MADE SOMORES OVER AN OPEN CAMP FIRE OR ALLOWED YOU CHILDREN TO WALK TO SCHOOL BY THEM SELVES WELL HERE IN MY HOME TOWN WE ALL STILL DO THOSE THINGS WE STILL HAVE THE COUNTY FAIR AND WE STILL WAVE AT PEOPLE COMING DOWN THE ROAD AND EVERYONE IS FAMILY SO IF WE ARE JUST DUMB HICK THEN THIS I SAY TO YOU

judging someone based on their accent is very close-minded. i'm a proud southerner, but sometimes people look at me differently when they hear me talk. (and my accent is not as pronounced as others) on the flip side, i've seen southerners totally write off a person with a "northern" accent and flat out call the person a "damn yankee."

so, short answer, i only think a person is a dumb hick based on WHAT they say, not how they say it. dumb people can speak in any accent!

That is so funny you asked this question , because i was just having this discussion with a co-worker. And honestly, people with southern twainy accents sound very dumb.
